yes and no....I agree with you that Rolex is not for everyone, but the question posed is if a Tudor will scratch the itch for someone who wants a Rolex, and I think that easy answer is no.
There are tons of great watch names out there, and Tudor is certainly one, but there is only one Rolex.
Same reason I wouldn't recommend someone buy a Rolex if they desire a Patek.....wont work

In the context of the question asked by the OP, you and I agree.

My comment was meant more in general. I believe so many miss out on other brands because of their myopia and infatuation with a "name". I was guilty of this many, many years ago when I was new to the watch hobby.

All this fanfare recently for the Tudor is starting to confuse some....a Tudor is not gonna satisfy the desire to own a Rolex anymore than an Omega, Oris, or any other brand would, because it is not a Rolex.
This guy is thinking clearly.

The Black Bay Black has satisfied my itch for now. However, I also have a BLNR, a DJII and a speedmaster. It might have been a different decision if it was my only watch but I am fortunate in that I can enjoy it as a complimentary addition to my collection.

I don't think the BB will scratch the itch. Why? Because as nice as it is, it's still not a ROLEX. It'll sooth your itch for a while, but that itch will come back until you get a Rolex.

Not a fan of the big lugs and skinny bracelets on the subs, I've never been a fan of the hour hand of subs and GMTs either.

BBN gets my vote.

Used 14060 + almost new (used) BBN. Problem solved

Between your choices, the Sub ND

I'm the same way. I just got rid of my Sub for a brand new two liner Pelagos and put money in the bank as well. I can buy another sub anytime I'm ready.
That to me is the cool thing about watches ... Lots of different strokes for different folks.

For me, being comfortable with a Tudor is a journey, a psychological journey.
I now wear my BBBlack and THC daily on weekly rotations. And I have an EXP I, EXP2-42MM, SD4K in my safe that I have not worn for months.

If I have my Tudors first, I guess I will be "wanting" to have a Rolex. Afterall, Rolexes are more WANTS than NEEDS.

My current 2 Tudors really got the watch spirit I am looking for and fit my lifestyle much better. To me, Rolexes have become more jewelry than a useful life accessory. Wearing a $10K SD4K needs to be careful not to bang it , scratch it or get mugged. But wearing a $3K Tudor is more carefree. If I scratch it, break it or it got stolen, it is not so bad. Tudors are respectable watches made by Rolex and I get the quality and product confidence, and even the prestige associated with them.

I think the current Tudor renaissance really brings back the true tool watch spirit of the early days Rolex. Great design, great quality and reasonable price points. I am now really thinking about selling my Rolexes and just be happy with my 2 Tudors.

Absolutely agree with this, and am in a similar boat. Also, the more banged up the Tudor Heritage watches get, the better they look. There's something quite appealing to me, too, about the anti-brand coolness of an unRolex made by Rolex.

You two win the award for best posts on this thread! Love the anti-brand coolness comment as well. I absolutely "get it". Tudor is channelling that old Rolex vibe that seems to be missing in the current model range and presents a great alternative.

I'd have to say ND Sub of the two...both are great watches, but the Glidelock on the Sub seals the deal for me!

I have rolex but still want tudor. To answer OP's question, i choose BB black, not because i don't like Sub ND but because i am waiting for BB black to arrive at my AD

Adam you are so ahead of me in the watch zen realm, I appreciate my Tudors but not enough to enjoy getting them banged up. The other day I saw the first scratch on my BBBlack's left polished side and a tear came down quietly. I still don't understand how I got all my watches' left sides scratch up since they do not make contact with anything and I do not rest my watches on the sides.

Even if you go down the path of getting both whats so bad about it? You act as if having two watches is a bad thing. Both are great watches and well worthy of a place in a collection. I've got the 14060 and the BBR, had the 114060 and find the other two far more wearable. What ever decision it will be a good one.

I think a banged up and faded tudorblackbay would look great tool look.but a banged up sub c would not look as good.
I think the metal bezel of the blackbay will fade after time?

OP here...Well, I was at the mall today looking at both the Tudor BBN and the Rolex Sub ND. Had to go to 2 different dealers to look at them and couldn't hold them side by side.

One of the stores was having a big watch manufacturers' expo with reps from all kinds of high end brands. This jewelry store used to carry Rolex but not now. I spent quite a bit of time one on one with the Tudor rep and learned all sorts of things about the company and its history.

After a bit of wrist time, I was able to negotiate a discount on the only Black one they had in stock.

As of this moment, the Sub itch has been scratched. I liked the Black Bay in person much better than the pictures I've seen. We'll see how long that lasts, but right now I am pretty happy.

Sub
Tudor
Subc
would be my choice. Just not a fan of the wider case and ceramic insert.

Tudor Black Bay Black or Sub ND?

This may help...
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=442976

Honestly the BBN is really growing on me. Especially on NATOs...

If you're a bracelet guy the SubC wins otherwise the BBN is a knockout.

I have the BBB and I can't take it off my wrist, but I'm in the hunt for the hulk. That being said, whatever is in your budget. The price point of the Tudor is a steal for the vintage look. But you'll never be able to shake the feeling of wanting a sub until you have one.
