116619 for me. I really like (and really need) the glidelock clasp.

Agreed. For me there is only one DD40 that beats the Smurf and it is not YG.

Day date 40

Imo a watch that commands mid 20 should have a little bit of bling factor. It doesn't look much different from the sub in black or green. At least with the day date you have a watch that has a superior movement, a bracelet exclusive to the day date, and just a more unique altogether. Keep in mind I just turned 30 so maybe my taste is relative to my lifestyle

Having owned both I will tell you the SUB will get more wrist time but the DD provides a superior wearing experience.

Hope that males some sense.

You're probably familiar with the sports expression "Act like you've been there before" regarding scoring touchdowns/goals/ect? The way it feels to me is if watches were athletes and the end zone is the Gold Zone, that's the difference between the YG Day Date vs the 2 versions of sports/professional series models I have in WG (although not the Sub).

The latter 2 are excited, filled-with-exuberance athletes not used to "being there" in the end zone. The under-the-radar white gold is one who still manages to act like scoring is just another day at work. YG sports models are athletes who can't help but to mark the unusualness of the circumstance with a showboating display.

The Day Date, on the other hand, is the vet player that doesn't need to be told to act like they've been there before because scoring and "being there" in the zone is practically where they live. For the Day Date, the Gold Zone (white or yellow) is and has always been where it's lived, and it actually is just another day at work.

I like them all, but to me the gold versions of SS models will always have the feel of being out of their element in a "playing dress-up" sort of way, whereas a gold Day Date is the element itself, right at home and comfortable in the PM skin it was born with. It simply belongs.

Also 30, and love the idea of the presidential bracelet ONLY being on the DD.

Insane how close the voting has been.

Thanks for all the input and advice but to be honest I'm no closer in settling on one.

Luckily I have until March to decide, and maybe see if some new dials are unveiled.

Awesome pics too guys, thanks for making me want both even more.

I agree, when I think DD, I think Yellow Gold. I also think of a black jack table in a casino for some reason unbeknownst to me.

To me I have subconsciously felt this. I love the professional models a lot more than the DD. Growing up in a small college town in KS where there was actually an AD where the owner Mr. Elliott wore a DD with YG bark style band and I'm sure lots of diamonds I thought the DD was the Rolex to have. After seeing the SS professional models the Paul Newman's, Robert Redfords and Steve McQueens chose I think this is really where the heritage is and I love these more. This is why I'm not that drawn to PM models. And I guess why I'd choose the BLRO because it looks most like a SS professional model. After reading the intuitive post above I'd probably choose the YG DD II with a white dial although I think I'd prefer WG or RG or Pt. Honestly, they are all obviously great PM choices. I don't think you can really go wrong.

I'm surprised at how close the opinions are. A diver's watch in a soft precious metal that looks similar to the stainless version makes no sense to me — especially in this case since you have the 116610.

The 40 mm Day-Date gets you Rolex's new movement, a great-looking update to a classic design that will likely get better with age, something that actually looks different than your current Submariner, and a model that's much more in-demand in case you ever decide to sell it.

The WG Sub gets you a heavier, softer version of a watch you already have, and in pretty much the same metal colour.

I just don't see much appeal to the 116619.

DD40.
If it was up against the YG Sub with blue dial I'd have a different answer.

Just revisiting this thread again,

haven't made a final decision but the last couple days I've been leaning towards the Smurf.

Gonna buy one or the other next month after Basel.

Crazy how close the voting was, didn't even realize the Smurf ended up getting 4 more votes than the DD.

Decisions, decisions..

I hear you, things do change, I was all set on the second pic YG there but now the RG version is giving me second thoughts, I'm taking my time with this one too, may even get another watch in the interim.

DD40. I'm trying hard not to scratch this itch, but all these threads are making it difficult.

Good luck with your decision!
