Great story!

Although my beginnings were not as dire as yours sounds, I can certainly relate. You don't always realize how "bad" it was until you take the time to reflect back.

Sincere congratulations on your making it to your goal. It feels good when you earn it.

Great story. Being rich isn't always about money. The profession is very tough and unfortunately many people will never understand it.

Be safe.

Great story Howard!!! Those three years are gonna fly, I retire in two months from the dept. Make sure you develop plenty of hobbies or plan on a second career. Health care will be a concern unless the wife has it through her work. I'm working part time after retirement just to pay for health care. Start net working now to line something else up if needed.

Will do! Congrats to you on your well deserved retirement. I've got a few skills I've picked along the way, that can translate into a civilian living.

Very good story. I think it's important to consider not only where someone is in life, but also how far they have come from their starting point.

I have a lot of respect for people who can make a good situation out of a bad one
