No demographic...my friend it happened to me in China and I am merely stating the facts. If you read carefully it wasn't a watch, it was something I bought. Just a warning to folks to be careful. Only people like you take it as an offense to a particular demographic and term it as racially stated.

Secondly - your post was a generalised statement based upon one experience. So state 'this happened to me when travelling in China.'..rather than 'in China this is what they do....'

What I have noticed is the white gloved "thumb polish".

They all appear to have a continual habit of drawing their thumb over the crystal, fine when wearing a glove.

I give the valet 20 and tell him to leave it in the front. I've had experiences where they have my rr in low range with lockers locked when they pull it up. i dont mind the golf clubs. But i get your point you have to have faith.

They only pick it up and wipe it or comment on it if the watch I wore in is a "lesser" grade. If my watch is of higher pedigree than the watch for sale they usually do not touch or say anything.

Instead, I put my Sub, wallet, money clip, et al, in my carry on such that the grubbers don't handle my stuff.

If they want to go through my carry on (has happened a couple of times), I get to stand right there, and I let them know that I care very much how they handle my watch - it lets them know I have my eyes on it.

But last time I flew from Geneva, I was about to put my watch in a tray with my cellphone for X-raying when the security guy interrupted me with a polite "Please sir" and showed me a smaller tray, coated with some sort of soft fabric "For your watch sir".

I've been in many dealers. Weather Rolex dealer and others. It's happened to me many times that they've looked at my watch polished it and cleaned it with a cloth it's on the reason why it doesn't bother me is that the reason they do this is because normally they are watch enthuses them selves. Although I must admit I've never had a lady sales person do this not sure why. Anyway if there admiring my watch I don't think there's anything wrong with that

Wear your watch through TSA and have them hand scan you. After some advice from other forum members about TSA checkpoints, I never take mine off in the US anymore.

Giggity... I don't mind salespeople handling my watches. Only one time, a salesperson "rolled" my AP ROC, which was mildly annoying but nothing to go crazy about.

Why do you guys put your watches in a carry-on? I wear mine while going through TSA all the time... It's visible, so you don't have to take it off.

Have TSA agents asked you to remove your watches? I've never been asked...

It's all over the board with the ADs I've been to. When I try on watches I always put my watch down on the leather /velvet pad they put out. I've had some offer to clean, some completely ignore my watch, and some pick it up and essentially flop it around when putting it back down. Doesn't bother me. Most of my watches have seen much worse being in the muck and mud, in the woods, hiking, in the lakes, and in oceans. As long as they don't drop it on the floor I really don't care. Even if they were to scratch it I probably wouldn't notice anyway.

I'll place my watch right on the counter, they've picked it up and place it on a mat many times. I have no problem with that.

I was once asked if they can handle my AP, I said "of course"... Tbh, I think a lot of the sales ppl don't even know what they're looking at. Or, they just pretend like they don't know or care.

This has been an interesting thread. First of all my friend...lol I don't mind them picking it up, and i don't mind them cleaning it. Even though I'm not rich, I act like it's only a regular watch to me so I am not worried about it or concerned that they are picking it up or handling it. Even if I let my kids play with it, I try to just allow the natural process happen...

I would like to comment on what KHooger said. I feel that we shouldn't make general statements about cultures, or even locations. He did not state a fact, he made a general statement, and I think appropriate action was taken... and especially because he did not acknowledge what his offense was...

In my experience, they must be trained to offer a bit of a clean up while you are looking at watches, as they have asked every time prior to picking up my watch and wiping off while I have tried on others.

Not all AD's have offered this, however. I have never had one pick up my watch without asking.

The only time it bothered me was the time an anonymous AD salesman at a place I'd never been before took my rolex out of the blue and looked very closely for the serial and other counterfeiting security signs...

He seemed to be looking to see if it was fake... I thought that was uncalled for since there was no trade involved...

Yep. I went thru DTW and RSW this week. In Detroit I went right thru tsa with it on, and didn't raise an eyebrow. Going thru tsa this morning, I asked directly if I could keep it on, and they said yes no problem. 3 months ago, tsa in ft. Myers wanted it off. For the most part I feel like you can wear a watch thru and sometimes they just want everything off. Standards seem to vary depending on the airport
