Blro
You already said you could use the GMT function for work, and, that if you didn't purchase the BLRO, you'd purchase a "beater" GMT, which in that case, you wouldn't be enjoying your Rolex, you'd be wearing the beater. Your PM rolex would be in a drawer or in a safe. . .and you'd be working to find time or a reason to wear it, rather than it being the watch that you use, and that accompanies you, on your everyday journeys.
I think you have a great idea to consolidate to one watch, and the Rolex (in this case, the GMT-Master) really covers all the bases. Plus, when this is the one watch you're wearing, you'll find that as you go through work and life, you'll have THIS watch with you through many of your adventures, and not the beater. 50 years from now, you'll hopefully have logged a lot of hours, nautical miles, and adventures, and this Rolex will have been with you through it all. THAT's what makes an heirloom! As for your concern of WG vs SS for durability - while gold is a somewhat softer metal, "soft" is very relative here: it's a metal. It is alloyed with other, much harder metals for the exact purpose of attaining every day durability. And, if you do hit a watch hard enough to ding it (which is rare in and of itself), then it will ding or scratch whether gold or stainless steel. So at this point, it comes down to a matter of getting what you love!! |

Leaning towards the BLRO. The owner of my AD is calculating the trade-in value on my collection and I will hear from him this week. IF I go BLRO I will be trading in my 214270, 116520, 116610, BLNR + small amount more cash all for the BLRO. So its a big decision. But I have been recently wanting to be a 1 watch guy with 1 watch that can do it all for me!
I think if he gives me good trade-in value AND a good discount on BLRO I will pull the trigger!!.......I'm sure some of you are thinking I am crazy :D. Some math: 116610 (5.5k) + 116520 (8k) + 214270 (4.5k) + 116710BLNR (7k) = 25k + 1-2k = BLRO. This is very rough math. |
