BLNR refers to the Steel Ceramic bezeled GMT with the BLue and Black or NoiR bezel.

It became the nickname for the watch - BL from the Blue and NR from Noir or Black from the bezel colors.

ok, but one could type "Rolex BLNR" into Google and see what it is almost instantly. I do understand that these terms can be confusing to people who are newer to the hobby, I think the point the guy was making was that the answers are very readily available.

BLNR...not a nickname.....it's the actual model number of the watch listed on the ID card.... 116710BLNR..... you are correct on the meaning of it.

No I would not do that. The 16710 is a classic. Unless you only want one GMT and are in love with the blue only I would never do that.

They're both great watches. Why not save up for a bit and just add the BLNR? I think the BLNR is the perfect GMT and superior to the 16710s and earlier variants but I bet in a year or so a 16710 or 16750 will be my second watch. As a pro pilot I appreciate the history of the SS BLROs. While by no means is a 16710 rare the fact of the matter is they're not produced anymore and never will be again with AL bezels.

I have both and love both, but I would not sell my 16710. Actually, if forced to downsize I would sell the BLNR and my Zenith Daytona before the 16710!

While I prefer and recommend the LN version (classic Rolex tool line look, been there in the past, green 24h marker look better imo), I would not trade. Keep and add yes, if you're bored, in the meantime get some inserts and nato bands to mix it up. Couple of hundred bucks and amusement forever...

No way. The BLNR is easily acquired now. Later model 16710s are getting much harder to find and the prices seem to be increasing almost monthly on the good ones. I bought a very nice D series last year. Lately I've noticed that similar watches are going for $500-1000 more than I paid for it.

Hang on to the 16710. If you want a change get a new bezel color. I changed my Pepsi to Coke and it was like getting an entirely new watch.

I agree, finding out the OP has no long-term connection to the watch changes everything. It's pretty much the same as if he had asked "which watch should I buy?" before acquiring the Pepsi. And though we all have our opinions, the answer would be "it's up to you--which will you enjoy more?"

Sure, some would still say "buy both", but it's not a realistic option for most. And depending on how much he paid, he might take a loss on the Pepsi now, but maybe not.

Hmm, I disagree to a point, reason being, I've had watches that I love and have lost the feeling so I've flipped only to find that I miss it and want it back.
Other watches I've had no love for so I've sold without regret.
I suggest putting it the drawer for a month or so. Once by its back on your wrist you will likely feel the love again

From what I can see the buying public is voting with their wallets. Decent example 16710s are selling for more than new 116710s in some cases. Might be too early to tell, but it looks like the 16710s are headed for "Classic Town" and the 116710s are just another nice watch.

I say no. I sold my blnr as I could not stand the pcl's. The bracelet is a scratch magnet. I am presently in the market for a Pepsi and will be pulling the trigger on a L series 16710.

Get both - and a jubilee + 3 x insert - and then you can mix and match With your 16710 and BLNR as much as you want. :)

I think the 16710 is on its way up still in terms of market value. Besides that the Pepsi colors didn't do it for me anymore so I switched to the black and I love it. And the coke is nice as well. Try changing bezels first it becomes like a new watch. I think you'll regret getting rid of the 16710. It wears so well too. I like the ceramic GMT and will get one but not letting go of my 16710.
