I've been thinking of consolidating my 11pc collection of which 5pcs are Tudors!

For the past few weeks I have been struggling to decide which of my Tudors I would be willing to part with as I figured that some of these really need to find new homes, be appreciated and worn regularly.

This thread was one of the many on TRF that was a great resource when I was hunting for the Big Block and the later 792x0 chrono models.

I've decided which ones to let go but this Big Block is definitely staying with me for, hopefully, as long as I can!

A bit of history:
In 1970 (approximately 46 years ago), the first series Tudor Oysterdate Chronographs Ref: 703X/0 was introduced by @tudorwatch .

Then the (now infamous) "Monte Carlo" came out in 1971, the second series Ref: 71XX/0.

The "Big Block" first came out in 1976, the third series  known as Tudor Prince Oysterdate Chronographs Ref: 94XX/0 then later Ref: 791X0.

Mine is a 1995 Big Block example Ref:79170 with the 12 hour rotatable bezel. It's not a Monte Carlo (which commands crazy astronomical price nowadays) or an early Big Block but it's mine nevertheless. 😄

For the full history of Tudor Chronographs, start here:

https://www.tudorwatch.com/magazine/...onographs-1970

A (Tudor) family pic (not in pic is my Blue Pelagos, love this no nonsense diver as well)

Come on guys, post your latest pics!
Let show some love for the Tudor Big Block

Thanks for the link, helps me to nail down which one I want. I've been wanting a Daytona but realistically speaking it is out of my reach, These Tudors look fantastic plus they have the date which I really like on my watches. I'm on the hunt.

4-5 years ago these Tudor chronos were really a steal (1.5-2K) and prices have doubled over the last 2 years from what I have seen.
But I still believe that their value for the money is waaaaay up there.

Good luck in your search!

It's a long time since these 791xxx series were that cheap. The later 792xxx were and are generally lower priced

Big Block Colorado

Saw a post from a fellow Coloradan, thought I'd better add to the big block Colorado collectors. I bought this new in 1992, hardly worn, currently in safe deposit box, so the picture is a bit old.

Guys, great pictures all around.

I have to ask, particularly because I am in the market but cautious about the variations of the 791xx series. I see quite a few for sale with Rolex Oyster bracelets and clasps. Mostly from 1989-1992 (chamfered hour markers) and particularly on the steel bezels, when it appears this was possible. The Tudor site says 1992 was the year this changed to Tudor Oyster bracelet and clasp - yet I still see Rolex clasps on some of these and Tudor clasps on some.

What is the consensus on this? I would greatly appreciate additional info to help better understand prior to purchase. Thanks!

Chamfered hour markers appeared in the earlier 94300 too. I have one from 1983. At this time the AD was able to offer both bracelet options (source: VRF).

Thanks for the additional detail and the link. The Tudor Big Blocks certainly have an interesting history - makes the watch that much more intriguing to research and learn about from a historical perspective.
