a grail can't just be obtained - either because of price or scarcity.

People keep talking about the legendary grail search as a basis for this - the fact that the knights never found the grail meaning that we can never achieve our grail watch for whatever reason. The knights didn't set out to find something that didn't exist, they were looking for something they believed they could find. No matter how hard, they expected to find it or die trying. If a watch just can't be obtained then it simply never existed. Any other watch can be obtained. Price or scarcity don't make a watch unobtainable if you're a billionaire. A one-off that the maker doesn't want to sell might not be on the market now, but in 20 years their heirs may be happy to part with it for $xxx,xxx,xxx..... There's a chasm a mile wide between can't be obtained and probably won't ever obtain unless I win the lottery. The super-rare watch might be dirt cheap, but it's no less hard to find than the super-expensive watch when you're a janitor. Even then, though, the rare one might be seen while out wandering round a yard sale and the janitor could win the lottery. |

Is grail overused?

As far as Arthurian Romances go - the grail actually was attained after the overcoming of pride and sin and turning to God in Wolfram von Eschenbach's 'Parzival' ;) Unfortunately I can't obtain a Calatrava simply by turning to God :/ sigh |

Rather than turn to God I'll just pray a bit more whenever the lottery results come out. |

I don't know.
In my 20s it was sea dweller. Bought it in 2002 In my 30s it was a DSSD. I bought it in 2011 I just turned 40 this past March and nothing in the Rolex line really catches my eye. Saying that I do like the sky dweller,do I like it enough to spend that kind of money,NO! Its a lot of fun looking! |
