Born and raised in New Orleans. Lived in the FQ for many years.
As a tourist, it's foolish to bring a Rolex to go out partying in the FQ; even more so in the strip clubs. The risk is not losing the watch but that you'll be hurt in a robbery. You should consider what exactly is the reward you are weighing against this risk. It's easy for people to say "go for it" but I think it's smarter to consider the environment and dress accordingly. |

DO exercise common sense when in the city DO NOT think that it is okay to be one of those obnoxious drunkards trolling the street of Bourbon, pissin' outdoors and vomiting anywhere you please. Would you do that in your home city? Probably not. Don't do it here! DO pay attention to your surroundings DO NOT think that it is cool to be a drunken idiot DO NOT fall for the guys who will try and stop you saying, "I bet you I can tell you where you got those shoes"........Just keep walking and DO NOT entertain them for you may find your wallet missing and your not even being aware of it until much later. DO NOT venture off in the Quarter alone after dark. Especially if you've been drinking. You'll be easy pickings. DO remember that the Police Station is located at 334 Royal Street. Pick pockets work in teams and prey on the weak and the drunk. You'll need to know this address to file a report should something happen. DO have fun, act and drink responsibly. Yeah, it's a bachelor party. But that doesn't mean one has to be sloppy drunk and disrespect the very city you'll be visiting. New Orleans is world renowned for it's food and drink. Make sure you get to partake in both and make it back home safely. |

I don't buy watches to leave them at home. You have insurance, so don't worry for another second. Watches are meant to be worn, and insurance is meant to protect you from loss. I don't see what the issue is.

I don't want to trash the big easy, but i do wear my watch everywhere, only in NOLA i felt observed and checked out, never pulled my sweater up to reveal my watch. I do this sometimes around NY or LA as well, but that felt different. Insured is fine and swell, but that invites special attention, suggest a filled wallet and who needs a threatening experience on a fun (or any) weekend. I suggest no watch, who cares what time it is, and don't get too hammered and avoid sketchy and dark streets...

In New Orleans, very little distance separates safe areas from dangerous ones. A block or two can make all the difference in the world. Be very street smart and aware. When I lived in New Orleans, everyone I knew was touched by crime in one way or another. My car was stolen, I witnessed a shooting, a friend was stabbed, I could go on and on.... |

I did NoLa, hand grenades, jambalaya, etoufee and the whole lot...Daytona strapped for duty. Enjoy yourself responsibly and you'll be fine. It's no different than partying in Vegas. Now--if you're typically the guy in Vegas with a pink boa, shirt backwards, covered in something sticky trying to eat shrimp linguini with your bare hands in the back of the Circus Circus Keno room with no shoes on at 4 in the morning--don't bring a Rolex. Go Casio.
Either way, have fun! Oh and I voted BLRO!

Unless your friends are super crazy I wouldn't stress it. Just take one and be careful...
Is it safe... to party with your friends with a Rolex? yep. |

Well, given they are insured does it really matter? I guess just bring the one you don't mind taking a potential beating while drunk haha. Otherwise I'd say go get a Tudor Black Bay (whatever color you like) and just dedicate that as your travel watch.

N.O. (Mardi Gras) is the only place in the USA that I have traveled in which I did NOT wear a Rolex...

I've been to New Orleans about a half dozen times and never had an issue with watches...but my phone did get stolen from a bar top right next to me. Just got back last night from a wedding there and brought my 44mm Pt ROO and RO RG skeleton. My wife also wore her diamond RO. We are on bourbon street late at night and we didn't have any problems.
Your biggest issue is how aware you are of your surroundings. A bachelor party where you and the boys might be overserved could make you an easier target. |

If you already think it could be a risk, I would guess you already know the answer!
