Thanks everyone for the support! Plenty of folks have said they would like to know how much some watches sold for. To make the data even more accurate, that raises two questions (maybe I should start another thread for these?)

Would you tell me -
* How much you sold a watch for & to whom?
* How much you bought a watch for & from where?

Very interesting, but I think noting whether the watches come with boxes and papers is crucial. That has a big impact on price. Also, condition plays a big part, except on BNIB watches, of course. Still, great stuff!

@swish77 I have that data too. I'll have to run the queries to see what the box & papers are actually worth. As quality can be subjective, I'm not sure how I'll parse that but I should definitely be able to see the premium box & papers add

@Evanthomas Thanks! I'll probably make a new thread later today or tomorrow to see what others think. I think my comment will get lost in this thread

the Govberg app already has this feature... tell it what model you have, purchase date, things like that and it spits out the average price that you would get privately.

There is no way the storm trooper / darth Vader steel ceramic daytonas are worth $18k.

I would never pay gold bezel prices for Ceramic bezel.

Either way I disect this, gold will always be more valuable than silica sand.

I started a separate thread to see if people will self report how much they paid & when. I have no idea what the response will be, but it should be interesting.

The Govberg app is great for researching prices.

For those who find this thread, you can now browse & search all of my data @ orolo.co!

As this is a new project, I'm looking for feedback. So feel free to be brutally honest.

Very interesting and thorough indeed! Nice to know the secondary market is cooling a bit. This story has played out before to varying degrees with various "hot" references. Eventually the buyers decide it's just too expensive for a current model and the sellers then compete against each other. Thanks again for your efforts and sharing. Cheers!

Well the truth is, it's started heating up again. The dip was short lived (unfortunately)

Really cool data. It will heat or cool again after Basel. I imagine it depends on anticipation vs delivery of any new models that materialize or fail to.

I was expecting it to keep dropping as more inventory comes out. I'll try dig in further to see any trends on the numbers I'm seeing coming up for sale. I'm really interested to see if there is a steady number of watches coming out for resale or if it is picking up. Trying to gauge if Rolex is making more today vs last year (or if it holds steady).

Excellent data set.

I think this website is out of date and needs a like button.

I wonder if there is a way that you can show which watches are purchased between the 20,000 and $25,000 price range.

$25,000 is a great number to hit you can get a white gold Submariner yellow gold Submariner white or yellow gold GMT or any day date at that price.

I'd be curious to see which of those sold the most.

Which references? I'm definitely still trying to figure out how to best show/use the data. This would be an interesting exercise- but we can make it happen

When you look at how many are for sale on Chrono24, here, and all over the various forums it's not surprising that they're dropping fast. When most of the market action appears to be lateral amongst resellers and not to end-users you get a definitive bubble, and I think that's the case with these pieces right now.

Definitely what I was expecting too. However it looks like that trend from December is reversing.

I suspect that the supply of new ceramic Daytonas were limited near the end of the year and early this year due to the holidays which caused a spike in the resale prices. Hopefully it will cool down again once supply ramps up again.
