In my early days of watch collecting where I am basically still going for stuff like Omega, Rolex and entry level APs, I used to get stick-shock when I first heard the prices of RM and without a second look and better understanding, my first instinct is to scoff at the brand, much like many do, and to write them off as gimmicky, plasticky and not worth the money.

But as I gained more in-depth understanding, I start to appreciate the technical details and craftsmanship that goes into these timepieces, most of them have never been done or attempted by any other brands before, like the watch in this discussion. Looks and worthiness are entirely subjective and depend on the collector. That said, a large part of the premium goes into it's exclusiveness and rarity.

That said, I have yet to own one because I still suffer from sticker shock. In my mind, I will think of how many PPs, or APs, or Langes I can buy for the price of one RM. That said, I still aspire one day to own one of the more "basic" models. Maybe the RM11-03, if I can find one to try on first.

OR maybe you're afraid once you try one on the rest will never be worn

Ben, my friend, run down to the SG RM Boutique and try one on.

Your collection will shrink, not grow...that's a good thing.

Are you trying to bait me Paul? Remember I take a looooonnnnggggg time to decide.

I did venture into the SG RM boutique once. Gosh, the atmosphere there was so frosty, I thought I will feel warmer and more welcomed if I visit the penguins in North Pole.

I've always loved the 27-02, even though I'm not a fan of most RM. Wayde van Niekerk had one on too when he set the 400m WR last olympics. But yea, would have a better use for 800k, to say the least.

Funny, I was watching the Australian open, and was watching for if he fiddled with the watch. Seemed like it might've bugged him a few times, at least the sweat under the strap.

Tennis-Rafael Nadal's watch during the AO SEmi

RM in general It's a cool watch with high tech materials, that I would consider a fun watch. But that's my problem, can't justify that kind of money for a fun watch. I guess you need to pay to play the game so you can really understand it/justify it .
Also a little bit weary with the future of brand and/or price retention and demand.

I guess with unlimited funds who cares about the above ; just enjoy an live la vida loca

Cheers !

I really did hesitate between 4 watches before being set on the Voutilainen, and 2 of them were RM 035-01 and a 055, the fourth was a Lange Dato perpetual in WG. At first I really didn't understand RM and didn't know the brand, I even made a thread here asking what it was about RM seeing Roger and Paul getting some, I knew they were very expensive, other than that not much, and after time I really started to enjoy some models, the 2 cited mainly, and some LE's, my favorite of which is this one, my second favorite being the 027-01, so both Nadal models. I decided on getting the Voutilainen, as for me a watch which costs so much should be a unique piece of wearable art, but this is just because for the time being that is a lot of cash for me to have in a watch, what is clear is that I intend one day to get one, probably when my kid will be financially independent, and when I will sell a piece of real estate for leisure purposes, or when I will win the Lotto, or maybe one day I will sell a few few pieces and consolidate in 1 RM, for the moment I prefer aiming for 6 pieces, but RM is still in my sights, just might take a certain time to get there.
But one thing is certain, if you don't do your research and get to know the brand you won't like it, but they do really have some amazing offerings, as for the price well that's for exclusivity, at least you can probably think that you won't meet anyone with a RM at your local supermarket, though you could say that about any ultra high end watch brand.

I would buy a few PPs and keep the change at this price. But as other friends here have said this is not a watch for everyone. Defo not for me. Both price- and look- wise.
