I too had an opportunity with a black dial on my wrist to purchase and take home. Turn it down and passed for a white.

White since the first day, but I prefer the black dial on the 116520. I've asked many of my friends both enthusiasts and laymen in regards to watches and they overwhelmingly prefer the black dial. I don't think the poll results here are typical of the majority of potential buyers.
Why do I prefer the white dial? The contrast. It is the closest in resemblance to the coveted vintage models. Also on the GM you can be sure that a white dial is an authentic 116500LN and not a 116520 with an aftermarket bezel. One would have to take a 16520 white dial, replace the bezel, and replace the bracelet and it still won't have the 4130 or engraved rehaut. It's much more unlikely for anyone to bother doing that. Down the road, buyers of 2nd hand black dial 116500LNs will need to see pictures of the case with bracelet removed before buying, especially if sold without papers since they're the same apart from the bezel. Currently on multi-year waiting list for the white dial but I have paper documentation from the AD not just my name written down on a piece of paper.

What's the current preference on Daytona C dial color?

The snailed subdials are matte on the black dial 500s now so the dial is different on those too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You're right! Wow can't believe I didn't notice it until now. I have to look more closely! I saw an aftermarket 116520 in one of the windows on 47th St. and it looked identical to the 116500LN. You learn something new every day!

My honest opinion when I tried them both on last June back to back
Black - maybe too subtle, didn't excite me. sales lady loved it White - not subtle and looked a bit like it was made of plastic Left kind of disappointed as thought I would love the white one - I do on pics. Maybe it just takes some getting used to. I would have been disappointed anyhow as they were not for sale! |

Rolex press photos made me crave the white out of the gate but in my hand the white dial doesn't pop the same for me. I'm very biased to dark dials though so it is what it is.

Is it just the angle of the photo or does the black dial appear larger in person? I know with the 520s the black dial appears a little smaller.

What's the current preference on Daytona C dial color?

I believe it's the angle. I don't find one to wear larger than the other. Maybe a better angle here Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I love both. I have GMT LN & Sub LVC so I'd pick white to have variety in a trio

I'd be curious to know the vote break down from only actual 500 owners. I was down for a white and when I put it on my wrist for the first time immediately changed my mind for a black. If I didn't currently own one, I bet I would still be lusting over the white as I think the white comes across as more interesting in photos.
