I expect perfection from all luxury watch brands. Why are we paying so much if they can't get the dial to line up with the rehaut or have dial printing without run off..

You won't find 'perfection ' in this world.

Sorry for Rolex but on their website the rehaut's crown aligns perfectly with the triangle. I would want mine to look the same.

Rolex reference the word "perfection" often on the website and in the marketing material.

As such it is not unreasonable to expect what they produce to live up to the standards Rolex themselves advertise.

My dial is slightly off to the rehaut crown. Doesn't bother me. The other dial imperfections would however and frankly I've seen fakes with less imperfect dials.

I think that we are all different on what we expect out of a product we paid for. Personally is this was a smaller brand I believe a bunch of people who be roasting them at the stake. Since it is Rolex they usually get a pass. They aren't perfect by any means.

I personally wouldn't analyze it to that degree, but if you have any doubts then get it fixed.

If the op is that OCD he should have brought a 10x loupe with him to examine the watch and closely scrutinize it before handing over payment, IMO.

Every watch is going to have microscopic imperfections, that's what separates it from every other watch. I say it makes it YOUR watch and gives it a bit of character. I think if Rolex replaced your Explorer, you would find something wrong with the next one, and probably the next.... Your watch is a beautiful timepiece, congratulations on getting it, be proud of it, show it off, and enjoy it.

That's my opinion, if I misinterpreted your post and you were not seeking it, then please disregard.
I appreciate your response. The reason i posted was to seek opinions- Having an understanding of how people react to certain situations sometimes help with putting things into perspective.

it is indeed a beautiful timepiece and i am very proud of it- my concern was whether or not the things i listed were considered faults and required sending it in under warranty.

On that note, thank you kindly to everybody who took the time to share their perspective- your respective opinions are highly appreciated.

Also, it saddens me to see how some members of this online community feel the need to respond with negativity. Just because you are behind a screen with a keyboard, doesn't mean that your words are any less impactful. If you've got nothing constructive to say then don't say anything at all.

Hopefully this picture showed the mark on the 2 o'clock and the ink run on the E better.

Tiny printing imperfections are very common on Rolexes, as are the rehaut alignment problems, so those two issues wouldn't bother me. The mark on the 2 o'clock stick, that's another story and I would have it looked at.

What a great attitude you have! I faced a similar onslaught posting on here the first time for actually a similar thread about expectations of the Rolex brand versus my experience, though you have conducted and articulated yourself far better than I.

I think you're absolutely right to expect a flawless timepiece for the price paid, and like others have said, especially when Rolex themselves consistently throw words like 'superlative', 'exemplary', 'perfect' in your face.

If the problems are enough that you can see them at a glance with the naked eye... I'd be thinking about getting it sorted myself.

Agreed.

If you think the OP's watch is sub-standard, you should've been around in 2001 when the 114270 was released.
The imperfections on the 3,6 and 9 markers were glaring, with the white printing on them being offset in every direction possible and to varying degrees depending on the individual dial.
Fortunately it was possible to have it rectified by Rolex.
The dial on the OP's watch will be comparitively very easy to rectify with a very nicely worded letter of complaint to Rolex in Geneva citing QC concerns at that price point.
I believe the OP will be pleasently surprised at the result.

IMO, Rolex may well be at the bottom of the list when comparing dial quality but I accept it up to a point.

I haven't looked at any of my watches under a loop, but I have looked at them under a magnifying glass to check out the details.

The rehaut slightly being off wouldn't bother me. Not even sure if the requirement for it to be dead on center is a requirement by Rolex itself.

But...
the 2 o'clock imperfection that your latest picture shows would bother me, so would the ink run off if visible by naked eye.

I think if you approach an AD and send it to RSC, and hope that Rolex might replace the dial under the fact that it has two flaws, that would be great.

My watches all get plenty imperfections via wear but when they are new, I want perfection. I might not have noticed the crown alignment or the extra paint on the E but would have noticed the imperfection on the second hour marker. If purchased from an AD, I would get the AD to address the issue and send that watch into Rolex.

Congrats on the watch. It is a great piece even with the imperfections.

Thanks bud! Glad you agree.

Also,I think it's worth mentioning that I've never looked at my watch through a loupe- it's all visible to my naked eye.

Sorry, but that's why I don't use a loupe on my two Rolex (or any I've owned in the past). they churn hundreds of thousands of pieces out every year, and they're not perfect, and you can't really expect them to be at this price point.

If you want true perfection that you'd like to scrutinize with a 10x loupe all day long, pony up for a Phillipe Dufour, or any other masterpiece in this realm.

I will use it when cleaning and removing dirt on small crevices of my watch.

I was thinking the same thing as I have many times before. There's no such thing as a perfect watch. Anything created and assembled by man will have differences from another like it. But in the case of Rolex you really have to bust out a fine tooth comb to find them. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll just enjoy mine. And that's the last time I'll ever comment on this subject on this forum.

I noticed the 6 on my Z-serial 114270 was a bit off like that. Never knew it was a widespread issue. Any thread links? Not bothered, just interested...thanks.

The misalignment is not unusual for Rolex. If you don't like it, bring it back to the Rolex AD and see what they have to say.

FIY, I had spotted some issues on my non-Rolex watch. The issue was apparent under magnification and the manufacturer agreed to replace the dial. I doubt that Rolex will do the same. If you want to get that level of craftsmanship, you either have to get a Grand Seiko or play in the big league where such defects will be fixed w/o questions asked.

Thought the human touch is what we all appreciated from Rolex

These tiny imperfections don't look to bother most, and maybe one of the reasons a mechanical watch isn't for everyone
