Still going back and forth on this. I love the DJ but i keep wondering how often I will wear it. I dont dress up that often. I am a jeans button shirt type guy, maybe blazer. Rarely wear a suit unless it is a special occasion.

Well, the DJ2 is probably best thought of as the 'sportiest' Datejust ever made. It suits that role very well, but this is also why its probably worth considering a black dial Exp2 like the one above, because it's a beautiful tool watch for every day wear, but dresses up for more formal attire, very very well.
I'm a HUGE GMT fan and have a number in my collection, and for years, GMT's were all I had. I love my DJ's, but I've really fallen in love with the Explorer more than I ever imagined I would, and a lot of other sport Rolex owners have felt the same way once they've added one to their collection. The Polar Explorer is a beautiful watch, but I think the black dial Explorer probably trumps it when it comes to wearing it with more formal attire. It's just such a versatile piece. |

Argh. That photo ruined everything in my mind.
I def. want to get a white dial watch. My current collection has all black dial, black bezel. |

I am generally a jeans and t-shirt type as well, I went for the white dial/fluted bezel DJII. it dresses down perfectly fine (with the sporty proportions the DJ41 is lacking imo) yet has the ability to to be worn as a dress watch. Amazing versatility. I was in the same boat as you, Polar Exp II or white DJII the versatility sold me i think it looks great.

Get DJ2. You have the Sub already (staple Rolex sports watch). Time to mix it up and have a formal watch in your collection.

so back at this again. I went back to an AD to try on everything once again but this time I tried on a DJ36 on jubilee. Now I am leaning toward an older DJ36 fluted white dial. It has that classic look and just sang to me.
I found a X serial DJ36 white (complete), looks pristine for 3500-4K and might just hop on that. Wondering if I would be overpaying or if the value of this will just dip. While I dont plan on selling it you never know. I dont expect to make money off it but just looking for minimal loss should the time come. Also worried since it is summer and I wear a lot of short sleeve shirts, rolled up shirts the DJ will just stick out and scream Rolex, expensive watch. Not worried about safety but worried about people judging me in my office. Any advice appreciated. |

A DJ is without question the most recognisable Rolex model. It has all the design cues people associate with the brand from the fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet or oyster for that matter and the cyclops.
But you shouldn't concern yourself with what others think. 95% of people don't even care what what you're wearing and once you've had it in your wrist for a while you won't even concern yourself either. It's just a watch at the end of the day. One of the finest pieces of proven Swiss engineering available, and there's nothing wrong with owning or wearing one. |

Not long walked out my AD scratching my head over the new SS DJ 41 after going in to make a firm decision on the Exp ii and DJ ii . 8 " wrist would make you think Exp ii but that date just 41 on the jubilee is just stupidly comfy and so easy to wear and put pay to the DJ II . If staying under the radar is an issue then the Exp ii in white might aswell come with a 50 gallon stetson saying look at my rolex lol , i only ever notice the polar when out and about. The DJ41 black dial on an oyster would fly under for sure.

Different pieces. Both are fantastic pieces, but the are really quite different. If you're looking for dressy, go with the Datejust.
If you're after sporty with a bezel that is unique in the Rolex lineup (fixed stainless steel with 24 hour indicators), go with the Exp II. I still have my Exp II, I no longer have the Datejust. That was the direction I took. |

I just love the Polar Explorer for its most sporty appearance and a splash of color with the orange 24h indicator. But, of topic, the GMT is really not that flashy, I feel it's more of a current classic Rolex look, steel and black, scratched and scuffed in everyday wear.
And as for the DJ solution, it's great if you need a dressier watch, but to be subtle I fell it should be 36mm and have a dark dial, blue for the nerd, black for the classic appearance... |

I would go with the ex2. Looks amazing and was on my radar for a bit. Very unique and I have never seen one in the wild. However, the 5 digit explorer may be even better without some of the cartoonish characteristics
