At this point I would just demand a refund and move on. As much as it hurts, you'll eventually get more scratches that will easily hide those.
Chalk this up as another reason to buy from an AD... they should provide an appraisal at no cost |

My insurance just wanted a copy of my receipt when I bought my last Daytona in 2015. Just scanned it and emailed. Easy stuff

Sorry to take this to the dark side, but if you posted a Yelp link, I'd happily give my honest 1-star review based on what I've read in this trusted community. I'm sure a handful of the 64 other replies here would too. Maybe if we hit this guy in the wallet, he'll stop treating us like he treated you.

It's amazing a place would handle a >$10K watch with such disregard for it. I don't blame you one bit for being pissed off. Demand a refund, tell him to f-off and you'll take your business elsewhere in the future, then get online and write a few reviews on this merchant complete with pictures.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. The scotch brite worked good enough for me to the point I can move on. I'll go attempt to get my refund today and hopefully put this mess behind me.

Contact Rolex and see if they can polish it for you. The bad customer service you received is uncalled for. Where are they located so we know never to go to them?

Your best bet would be to request a refund. They obviously don't care about your watch nor about making it right again.

You did a great job! I was going to say, ignore the word "polish", because it isn't. Use a green sotchbrite pad. Put the pad on a flat surface and then (with locking clip out of the way) run the clasp along the pad a few times. If not too deep it will remove the scratches - if deep it will at least reduce them. Might be best to mask off the clasp sides if they are polished.

If there's no monetary damage to the watch, which there probably isn't, or it's very small, you don't have much recourse. Add to that you can't prove the damage happened there, and I mean proof to a court, I'm sure you dropped it off without the scratches. It's unfortunate the appraiser isn't admitting his mistake and doing everything to restore the watch to its condition when you brought it in. Clearly move on from him... get the scratches lightly polished out and do your best not to let it ruin the watch for you.

May I ask how long the watch was in their possession while the appraisal was being done?

Great job looks good as new and you will get scratches in the future now you know how to fix them. If the watch was bought from an AD they can give you a receipt and appraisal for free without opening the watch. If bought second hand etc you'd most likely have to get an appraisal.

I wonder how they managed to scratch the watch up that badly.
In any case, you did a great job with the scotch brite! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Those look like someone wore it, or as another poster said " may have switched". In either case, whether it will get scratched or not in the future, is not the point. The point is YOU did not cause the scratches and you should be made whole. I am sure you could make a case that when you dropped it off, you would have know there were heavy scratches. If you paid by credit card, you may be able to start a dispute. I would certainly write a letter to a Better Business Bureau or Attorney General and file a complaint. All the scratches on my watch, much as I hate them and they wrk me, I earned them myself. Good luck to you.

Yes, what he said. Formal appraisal not needed. I have a hard time believing an appraisal did this unless he said,"nice watch, let me wear it for a couple days." I would take it easy on the online reviews slamming. People are losing court cases for big bucks on similar cases.

Absolutely. But he seems to imply he didn't want to polish so that would be the other improbable option (as I mentioned). That's why I said no one would replace that clasp and he should just wear as is or polish and move on...glad to see that op got over it quickly...not much more can be said/done.

Good job with the scotch brite. I don't blame you, I'd be very upset. It's a cautionary tale. Thing is, the guy had you over a barrel...it would be hard to prove they did it, and even if you took him to small claims, your compensation and satisfaction would probably not be worth the time and energy it would take. That kind of business practice and attitude just irritates me.
Someday when it's a funny story (long into the future, I'm sure), you'll probably laugh about the irony of an appraiser actually damaging the watch. |

That turned out really good. However, it may have been better to wait until he refunded you to fix them so easily. You might get the $1.29 back for the scotch brite pad though. I can't believe it turned out that good.

This has been my daily wearer for approx 1.5 years; I work a desk job.
Don't know how some of you guys manage to scratch your clasps up so badly. Do you rub them against the desk on purpose?! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
