This seems like silly nonsense. I like Tudor a lot, and the Pelagos, but your statements seem ridiculous .
Rolex just made a 43mm SD, and they have made the DSSD for several years. Somehow you feel that Rolex would be afraid to make the Pelagos? Come on...this is the same company that makes diamond encrusted leopard print day dates. They do whatever they want...

I would keep the Rolex Sub. If the Tudor Pelagos means a lot to you, simply pick up one at a good price from a trusted reseller on TRF. I think if you get rid of your Rolex you will regret it down the road as it is one of the most sought after models in the lineup.

Sold my SubC for maximum cash locally to another enthusiast, and picked up the Pelagos LHD from my local AD. Pelagos LHD price in Canada after the discount I got from my AD worked out to be almost 20% cheaper than TS, not factoring in additional import taxes. I had about $5,000 CAD, or about $4,000 USD left in my pocket afterwards.

I hate to be controversial - but sometimes TS =! the best route. TS also couldn't beat the AD price I got for my mother's DJ!

And I do reckon it's unlikely I'll regret selling the SubC. I have a Hulk too!

I think he’s right in that the Pelagos was allowed to look more modern, and, most importantly, it was allowed to use titanium.

Well, we'll see if I regret it down the line or not. I just felt that given the LVc and the BLNR in my lineup already, the SubC was too redundant. Happy to add a lighter and more "fun" dive piece into the collection that's more understated (for travel in less safe areas), as I am currently babying the LVc. Plus now I have some extra cash I can add into my watch fund for my next Patek.

If I do regret it, I can always buy the SubC back, no harm, no foul. And I bought the Pelagos cheap enough that I would likely recover all of my money (as I bought at a lower price than even the cheapest used one in recent sales.)

Great watch! And I think your mom will love her present too. The pelagos is a fantastic tool watch, and given that you have a BLNR and Hulk already in the collection, I could see how the sub was made redundant.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but no sd4k?

Edit- looks like I was too late..not a fan of the pelagros but if you’re happy with the purchase that’s all that counts.

For the record, I also looked into the SD43 and DSSD D-Blue. Way too big and heavy for me.

Sure, the Pelagos won't have the snob appeal of a Rolex, but it's always nice to try new things out to truly discover what watches are all about.

Congrats it's a nice looking watch. Honestly if you're not going to wear the SubC you should sell it. If you are going to wear the Tudor you should buy it. I don't see it as a trade.

I should note that I have my blue Pelagos on right now. I would not trade a SubC for the Pelagos.

I feel like my point might have been lost in my (apparently) incorrect usage of the term "trade". When it was more like "I have a SubC I never wear because I have the LVc and it looks too similar to the BLNR I have as well. I'd like a tool watch in the collection as I don't plan on abusing the Hulk. What does everyone think about picking up a Pelagos and selling the Sub?"

So that's what I did - sold the SubC to another collector and bought a Pelagos LHD from the AD. I now have a great, unique dive and tool watch and a few thousand bucks in my pocket to fund my next Patek.

oooh... a very big, steel Sub and a slightly bigger steel Sub. That’s adventurous...
Decorating a couple of DD and the occasional Daytona with diamonds and tastelessness is not quite the same as committing to producing a truly a new dive watch with practical and useful features....
I bet the Tudor development team throw a much better party too....

Ok...you're right titanium is so edgy. And the helium escape valve and rotating bezel are so useful, wonder why Rolex never thought of that?
You do realize this is the same company, right?

Congrats on your sale and purchase(s). You and mom will both be very happy, I am sure. And if for some reason you decide you want a sub again in the future they are not that hard to get. I am sure your LVC will hold the spot nicely!!

and clever self adjusting clasp.. and lumed bezel... AR’d sapphire...and more legible indices and hands.... Some might argue, clever things if you’re designing what purports to be a dive watch....yet strangely, they chose to launch these features on Not-a-Rolex....

The other option I've floated is trading for a 5-digit SD or Sub.

The SD43 and Pelagos are the same, or very nearly, the same size. If SD is too big the Pelagos must also be.

I'm not a fan of the green Subs, but that's just me. Here's how I see it:

SubC (black ss) > Pelagos > SubLN

This has nothing to do with monetary value, just personal preference on aesthetics. Also, I don't think the black ss SubC and SubLN are redundant as the look of the classic black and Hulk green are so different they look like completely separate models.

Pelagos

Sounds like the pelagos would work for you or a 5 digit SD which would hold a good value.

Agreed, dove with my Tag Heuer quartz 1500 for many a dives. Still ticking today without service 23 years later. I’m sure the SubC is up for the task.
