Stories like this are downright amazing. I can’t get over how wonderful the watch still looks today. That’s a great memory and time capsule of sorts. Thanks for sharing.

These PX stories are amazing.
In the 1990s, all I remember being available at the PXs in Europe were Casios. |

you should write Rolex, and let them use your story for advertising, in exchange of a nice Rolex, that's what i would do .

Above is pictured my "Old War Horse" been with me fifty-two years. Through Good, Bad and the Ugly. Vietnam took many whacks with an entrenching tool while filling sand bags. She took a pretty hard lick on the wood floor while I attended the Tampa Police Academy. 106 Shuttle Launches from Pad 39. Numerous Bar Fights. Only one trip up the aisle to the alter. "Rolex Vibration and Shock test". My hand was shaking like a leaf. Will post more later. Son Casey posted pics. He can't wait til the watch is his !

My neighbor has a similar story to yours. He was a pilot in Vietnam and went into the PX and came out with a 1655. Like you, he had it serviced regularly and he to had the dial and hands changed out. I told him he had a pretty valuable watch and to talk to me if he ever wanted to part with it. He was shocked when I told him the value of it. He said he was planning to pass it down to his son, which was very cool.
