I need to start keeping more on me, just incase! I tend to pay for things by card (debit or credit) and just leave it in the bank for the most part.

I never use my debit card... I don't want to risk having it jeopardized in a hack, bigger headache than a stolen CC.

Everything goes on the card. I normally have less than $20 in my pocket.

So yes, I think on 2-3 occasions I have put 5 or 10 dollar bills into an atm because I knew that if I spent it, I would get change...

I keep a quantity of cash at home for weird emergencies, but in my daily life, there is never a need for cash.
Ok.

I usually carry USD 50 or less. Really only use it for tip for a parking attendant or other incidental expense.

I never carry more than $100. I put that much in my wallet as needed to keep the house cash stash at an even count by hundreds. I can buy fuel, and get a lot of fine dining which for me is the $5 combo box at the Taco Bell.

I have this down to a science. I carry 4 50 dollar bills. It fits in my small wallet without stretching it out. A 50 is accepted almost everywhere with ease, as opposed to 100s and 200 dollars covers most impromptu cash needs.

CC machine/network down, tips for service people, Craigslist (or KSL, or your local digital equivalent of the newspaper classifieds), money for the kids’ activities... I have a number of regular uses for cash.

Do clarify for the rest of us.

I carry a couple of hundred when I'm around home. When traveling, I often carry only enough to satisfy a guy who robs me, but not enough to make me try to fight back for my wallet. Usually about $40-60.

In my entire life, I've never encountered a random situation where I needed $5-20K immediately.

Mr. Heff:
In defense of having a gathering place for camaraderie of sorts, there are strong bonds of friendship here on TRF that watch folks have other interests in: witty banter, slap stick, curiosities, info sharing, photography, food, wine, autos, human stories... some of it is the glue that helps one through a difficult moment in time, albeit over cyberspace, even if the subject doesn't suit everybody else. The facilitator and mods have graciously and hospitably given us a corner on the forum to enjoy each other's company, with or without the subject of watches in the content of the posts.

Have a nice day.
Blessings,
DM

Sorry, OP, for digressing from your subject, which I see as access to currency if an unexpected opportunity arose to need/use it. DM

Once in my life, happened on 12/23/17 just a few weeks ago... It was the afternoon and my AD called, they had a white face DaytonaC, asked if I minded paying cash - by 2pm, every branch was closed until 12/26.

I got the watch after Christmas, but it was literally the first and only time I've ever needed that much cash on hand instantly (and not able to get it), it might never happen again.

Not only do I carry cash, I carry 4 currencies at all times, this is the life of a pilot.

I do have to ask though, who designed the €50 note? Its a stupid size and I have to fold them lengthwise so they'll fit in my wallet.

I believe the US is about the only country that has all the currency the same size and color. Most places they vary in size depending on value.

I enjoy this forum very much honestly. We are all here because we enjoy watches, which range in price from inexpensive to very expensive. Some of the people here are blessed with having a very wealthy life, and others budget and save. But what draws us all together is our love and enjoyment for horology. So when topics such as “How much money do you carry around?” come up, it just seems unnecessary to me. People post pictures of their expensive cars and toys, so just flat out discussing the amount of money in our wallet seems unnecessary.

Attack me if you will. Maybe I offended you, and if so, I apologize. But when we are on a forum that is already dedicated to the display of high end watches, do we really need to discuss how much cash we have?

So you don't actually carry the cash, I'm assuming it was in a safer place then your briefcase or pocket.

I'd love to hear more stories of needing $10k+ in cash "on the spot". I've never been in that predicament.

I generally carry a few $50 bill and leave some $20 bills in the car.

I like to have $500 -$1000 a month that the government can't trace my what I spend it on. Also when I was in the service, got in the habit of only taking what I could afford to loose off the ship. Cards for online transactions.
