We’re talking about a luxury watch. Everything is already overpriced anyways. It’s not a rational purchase, even at Msrp

Yes but its a watch that many have paid MSRP for. A couple grand over maybe.....$6000 over??? rip off

I have viewed the current SS prices as an opportunity to pick up a PM Daytona. With the depreciation of PM versions I was able to pick up a pre-owned PM Daytona from a trusted seller for signicantly less than the new SS version. Of course this only works if you are interested in other Daytona models.

OP: no way would I pay the premium being asked. I'd sit on wait list or use the cash for something else

I own a Daytona C and I love it but I wouldn't pay 18K for one. If I had the money in place to drop 18K on one of these. I could come up with a few thousand more and get into either Rolex precious metal range or make the jump to PP or ALS. it would probably be a YG GMT 2 Green dial though. Though there are some beautiful PM Daytona's not far from 18K too.

Agreed. If I'm spending 18k, we're definitely in PM range.

If you really really want it badly and don’t have an AD connection, why not. It’s just money. The only question is if this is what you want and have you seen one in person. I had originally only wanted a white dial until I was offered a black dial twice. In the end, I actually prefer the black dial. Give yourself a few days to think about it, you might save even more if you get a black dial.

Depends on how long your wait list is and how bad you want it... I waited 3 months and paid MSRP so I may not be the best person to ask...

I don’t understand the hype, I’m not a big fan of the Daytona in general, but I’d take a pre ceramic one anyways. Paying 6k over retail I think is Absolutely crazy imo!

To me, it's expensive at $12400 but attainable if I rationalize enough. At $18K no way for me. I had one 16520 and both dials 116520's back in the day when I "knew someone." I've got a couple of long shot feelers out for MSRP but if they don't pan out I guess I'll never have one again.

You’re going to pay close to that for a 116520 these days. Prices across the board are just crazy. Even at 18k if you factor in a few price increases and the price of enjoyment years earlier it’s not so much of a stretch.

Pray tell, which stainless steel sport watch can you buy from either PP or ALS for just a few thousand more?

Nautilus MSRP just went up to $30k, but of course are impossible to get unless you pony up $40k for secondary market. And ALS do not sell SS, nor sport watches.

I'm tired of my AD's waiting list! By the way, I want to buy it from Certified Luxury Watches , and I appreciate if you guys can share your experience regarding this seller with me.
If you pay that much for it, you need your head looking at. Pay a few bucks more and get a PM piece.

Um, he didn’t mention stainless steel sport watch. He simply said “...make the jump to PP or ALS

If no hardship, do it. If you like the watch & plan to keep it. It will be worth 2x in a few years if past predicts the future. SS high end watches are where it's at, long term.

Obviously rubs me the wrong way but the SS Daytona (white dial) is my "Holy Grail" watch. I've just acquired a new GMT Master II LN and after a year or two, could see myself trade or add the Daytona I want. Do you pay the premium for immediate delivery? Someday I'll have to address that!

Just saw a Brand new one on a trusted sellers page for over 20k hey that’s only 8k over list, I guess the 2018 price increase from Rolex better be 70% so at 18k that’s a great deal

You make a good point and appear to know the subject matter better than I! I tend to be a Rolex guy and I know I could pick up a pm Daytona or GMT between 20k and 25k so that is what I would do.

No, that is insane. If you remove the hoopla associated with that watch and look at other watches in the same price category (18K-ish), you will be surprised. Don’t buy the hype.

Sure. That’s a rational point of view.

But so is skipping the Daytona altogether and buying a speedmaster- just as much history and as good of a watch for a fraction of the Daytona’s price.

Or better yet get a Casio digital watch with a chrono function for $20 and invest the rest in a index fund. Even more rational.

My point is we’re all crazy here.
Some fools get taken to the cleaners on pm models- even more of a markup consider there’s not much gold. Or watches with rusting dials. Or buy new and get suckered into taking a depreciation. Just a different kind of crazy is all.
