Let’s see, I’m 74 and own DayDate, DateJust SS, BLNR, Calatrava, Swiss Army, and Luminox. I drive a BMW, hunt worldwide , fish, build furniture, and work out 4X times a week.

There is old old and young old. Making unfounded generalizations is unwise.

Older men, men in their 60s to 80s tend to wear smaller Rolexes, and not sport models. Younger men, 30s-50s, tend to wear mostly sports models exclusively. I'm 49 and feel the Daytona is a woman's watch. The DD 36mm is just to small for most men IMHO. I think men who are today in their 40s-50s will be wearing the DD40 or the DJ41, or the new SkyDweller, or a newer GMT, now and in the future, as well as the SD43 and SS Sub. My father is 78 and the only Rolex he wears is a DD36 in yellow gold. All of my elderly patients who wear Rolexes, wear either the DJ36 in TT or the DD36.
This is not to stereotype. I mean, to each his own, but the above have been my humble observations.

I'm 71, guess that is old? I hit all the attributes listed early on in this thread. 1980's TT DJ Jubilee bracelet. Really never thought about what anyone else thought about it and probably won't again after this is posted. :-)

My vote is going to be a Cartier Tank Solo.

Lately I see a lot of younger women wearing TT DateJusts. Also I noticed in South Beach a lot of women wearing Daytonas. Specifically RG and YG

Yep, both the 5512 and the SD43 will go to my son.

I was a teenager in the mid 80s and remember seeing the TT DJ 36mm on the wrist of young, professional men, with business owners and wealthier folks wearing the occasional DD YG 36mm. If you ask me, that was the fashion back then, and 'those' guys are now in their mid 60s and 70s.. My dad bought an OQ TT DJ 36 mm in 1978 when he was 36, he's now 76 and wears a Sub 16610!
Agreed, that was just the popular style back in the day and those same folks continue to wear them. Unlike us WIS, most people are happy with and continue to hold their cherished Rolex without thought of ever selling it. Indeed too, zoom ahead 30 years and the so called "old man's watch" will be something that's hot now maybe (?). Cheers!

Fashions change with time. The 'big watch' trend is here to stay (until it ends.) 40mm is the new minimum size for men, 31mm for women.

Ever looked beyond Rolex? Some watches out there are HUGE!
True, I wonder if the obesity epidemic has anything to do with it. A 58 year old here happily wearing everyday a SS DJ, inherited from my dad who had it since 1984. I would not wear a TT DJ, for reasons stated above. I find the SS DJ to be less showy and while not a sport watch can be worn anywhere.

I'll probably get flamed but personally I find it a bit odd for a 70+ older guy to wear a sub (unless he's had it a long time), most are not going to be diving anytime soon. Kind of like the guy with the big expensive SUV who never goes off road.

I love stories like this. In a way I wish I could be that guy, but realistically I'll always have a small gathering.

If I feel the need to check the time before I "check out" for good, I'll be looking at the same black face/bezel Tudor Submariner (model 75090) I'm wearing now. Just saying.

Yup. I find all the threads asking for advice on what watch to buy and who should wear which watch pretty amusing. If I’m spending thousands it matters not at all what anyone else on the planet thinks about that purchase.

At 63 I bought my first Rolexes a SS smooth bezel silver dial DJ 41 with a oyster bracelet, and a SS SubC ND. While I think TT and YG and fluted bezels are beautiful, they're not me, they seem blingy.
I've had no comments about my watches from anyone except my family, my 25 year old son was the only one who noticed my SubC. I don't tell anyone I own them, I just wear them, they are understated and beautiful in their own way.
Does that me an old fart, or young at heart?

I'm 61 and wear a subc nd and a Breitling avenger II GMT. Age is a number to me as I'm still young at heart. I drive a mustang and my wife is 18 years younger than me. The sub was my only choice when it came which Rolex I wanted. The date just never caught my eye, it was the Submariner.
Buy the watch you want, wear it.

I'm 48 and can't remember if I have already posted in the thread.

I wear a 1983 15003. I've been told it's an old man's watch. I don't care what others say. I bought it a year ago today and it's been on my wrist every since.

Can someone please repeat what the question is , I've been waiting that long to reply ,I have forgotten what I was going to say. Oh yes I remember now , every watch I own is an old mans watch , & when I give them to my grandsons they will instantly become young mans watches .

The sub is different though. It was released 65 years ago, but it’s always had a different persona than the DJ and DD. I don’t see that ever changing. The sub is and will always be the 2 door sports car, and the DJ and DD will always be the more conservative 4 door sedans by comparison.
