There’s actually evidence that the new Tudor movements are more precise than the old 3135. Great long term thread over on another forum about it. The new Tudor movements have incredibly low positional variance.

All the old issues are now solved with the new Black Bay. It‘s smaller (imo perfect size), it‘s thinner (11.9mm) and has a nice inhouse movement. What‘s the reason for an Sub instead of a BB58?

Thanks for your answer...
Issues? The original size and eta movement was perfect. In addition, it had the Tudor Rose on the dial and the anchor script at 6 O'clock. It also keeps the time as good as any in-house movement. That's the one to get.

Agree about the movement, but the size of the BB 58 trumps any of the other ETA BB positives, IMO. Size was the only reason I never bought any of the new school Tudor divers.

It’ll be interesting to see if the BB58 affects the ETA BB value down the road.

More and more Tudor is making it a tough choice between the brands with excellent quality for a great price point but the Rolex always seems to be calling back to me.

I have a 14060M sub from 2004 and am going to buy the BB58 as a nice sister to it's big brother ;) I love the looks of the BB58

Rolex is Rolex and Tudor is still just a Tudor.

Pick what you like but they aren't really comparable.

This is a general comment as well as a response to your beater comment. I simply don’t want ceramic on my watch. That’s my personal preference, and it ties in with the “beater” conscript of a watch because I REALLLLLLY don’t want ceramic on a beater. Again this is my personal preference, I just feel ceramic is unnecessary and it makes me uncomfortable wearing it because there’s a good chance I’ll break the ceramic within a few years!

I think discussing the 58 vs. a five digit sub is a better conversation than the six digit sub.

Agree 100% about the noir version. And we can assume it’s coming no?

I cancelled my order on the 58 because i recently picked up a 5513 so couldn't think when i would choose to wear the tudor instead of that.
I also had concerns about long term personal appeal of the 58

Whatever on the wrist is either a Rolex Submriner or other.
I had put down full payment for the 58, its the best diver watch out before the Sub.
14060m prices has sky rocketed, I cant see my self paying $7K. So I went with whats 2nd to best and not over 7k.

The only thing going against the Black Bay Fifty-Eight design-wise would probably be the clasp as with most other Tudors models. NATO would be the way to go. lol

New Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight vs. Rolex Submariner?

I truly miss my 114060 (traded for a Big Pilot) and I sold my ETA BBN (for more than I paid) as soon as I saw the 58 @Basel and will have the first one shipped to my AD. My 5513 is my favorite watch hands down and the BB58 seems to have captured the essence of that watch with all the modern refinments and none of the baggage of the Rolex name on the dial. Perfect for those times where discretion is the better part of valor.

There is only one submariner. Everything else plays second fiddle. Sure the 58 is a great looking watch but it will never be a submariner. I just don’t think there is any comparison. It would be better compared to a Seamaster 300 is think.

Sub is the gold standard in the segment but the current generation is a bit soulless IMO. I’ll stick with my 4 and 5 digit references. The BB58 oozes charm for me and probably the most appealing thing to come out of the entire group since the Sub-C. The vintage vibe is possibly a bit overdone for some but I think they nailed it overall. I can’t wait for mine to ship.

Whether Rolex or Tudor, we don't get many choices for a svelte modern sports watch from the group. The sizing and proportions alone have me interested as a go anywhere, do anything watch to add to the rotation. Can't wait to see the 58 in person and form an opinion.

The overall feel and finish of the sub is better than the Tudor. I love both, but would take the Sub any day if I had to choose.

Perfect list as to why someone would choose the Sub over the 58. And I do prefer the Sub. Its a stunna!

Perfect list of someone who is willing to pay over double the price of a tudor for the Rolex...

Outside of forums where most people may have only one decent watch a person who is considering the Tudor BB58 isn’t also looking at a Rolex Sub due to the price differential. Yes if they were the same price then the sub would be the obvious winner...but they aren’t the same price and as such are targeted at different markets and are not comparable.

EXACTLY! They are not comparable. Its a superior watch in the ways listed. Its part of why someone would choose to pay $4,000 more for a Sub.

They're both outstanding watches. You couldn't go wrong with either. Personally, both would be preferred in anyone's collection.

I think the 58 (and BBs in general) are a lot of watch for the price. But, price aside, obviously I'd take the Rolex -- there's a reason it costs three times as much.

The Sub Warriors on this forum make me nuts... Rolex isn't the end all be all of watchmaking. An 8000 dollar Sub is cheap in the luxury watch world, a 3500 diver is cheap in the luxury world.

That may be true among those just looking to buy the Rolex name.

However, in the WIS community, I think that Tudor is more recognized today (than a few years ago) for its superb in-house movement chronometers--which is why forum members DO post discussions of comparisons between Tudor and Rolex watches.

For example, I have had GMT on the brain since I chose my Sub over the GMT. And I may pick up the Tudor GMT Pepsi because I prefer its understated bezel, bracelet, and conservative styling, relative to the Rolex GMT Pepsi. I am giving up a little in quality of bracelet, bezel, and steel, but I do find the watches comparable.
