As someone who buys to keep, I don’t have much of an issue with this. At most, a slight irritation.
the funny thing is if TRF came up with best practices for AD's to follow to ensure a better delivery of watches to the end user it would look a lot like what the AD's are already doing and what people are complaining about.

AD's cant control what Rolex produces, they can only control how to get the watches to the people who want to own and wear them.

I 'registered my interest' on the 21.03 with my Aurum AD. Their phone was on fire from all over the UK and while it's great news for Rolex worldwide, UK supply constraints means 100% of these non local Pepsi enquiries are totally wasting their time.

'Expect some new process so pop in ASAP and we'll explain". Not a problem - off to see them tomorrow to have the chat and I'm fine with what's on the cards. I'm a wearer not a flipper.

I won't deny it makes me smile (some would say smugly) when I see my SD43 retailing at London gray WF at an almost 50% markup over list but it cannot go on. It's a stain Rolex could do without so bring on any process that helps - I doubt it will 'solve' their issue and who knows it may make it even worse but at least they are trying something..

Lipsmackin thirst quenchin (ace tastin motivatin good buzzin cool talkin high walkin fast livin ever givin cool fizzin) Pepsi!!!

Its almost impossible in my opinion to even get on an AD list in the UK, at 11.25 am on 21st I called my local AD who I have purchased 2 watches from in the past and was advised that whilst they would let me go on their list as a previous local customer there were already 5 people ahead of me - I was told the watch was announced at 11.00am. Called my other local AD who I am on waiting list for SD43 - who have never been able to source that or at GMTc going back to 2008 - still never had a call back, or a green sub to be told at 11.35am they had 5 cash deposits sitting with them for the Pepsi already, with 5 other expressions of interest - so they couldn't help me.

Called a local national dealer and they said that they watch would go to their other VIP customers first but they would take my name but what else was I interested in as they would only supply me a Pepsi if I purchased 2 other Rolex from them, said I was interested in a SD43 - no chance of that they said, asked about green sub, 10 people already waiting for that.

Called Watches of Switzerland, my 4th local dealer who I have purchased 2 watches from in the past, they said they were taking no names until Wednesday 28th and would only take names from walk in customers who had purchased from them before. Been on their wait list for a green sub for 3 years and they wouldn't take my name for a SD43.

I think the situation in the UK is a joke, so I've almost given up. Incidentally I was in Tenerrife last April and walked into an AD where they had a Green sub, at the time the exchange rate made it nearly £8kGBP and I awns't prepared to pay that, but it was in displayed in the window and they said it had been with them for nearly 2 months, but now as all the brits were coming again on holiday they expected it to go, walked past 4 days later and it was gone, indeed someone from the UK had bought it.

Suggest you try Spain in the lesser cities or the Canaries, you might get lucky ad get one of these hard to source models - although not the pepsi for a while, not sure on the warranty position though.

Yup This sums it up nicely

I got fed up of the games. On the verge of buying a 116500 from a grey and being done with Rolex for a very long time. The rest of my collection was consolidated into 2 PPs

Rolex uk seem to have introduced even more rules......part 2

I’m on the list for the new GMT (3rd on the announcement date).

These new rules just makes it better for the grey market to add a couple of grand on to their prices.

However taking multiple same names off different lists within the same group could cut the lists drastically. Hopefully meaning the one list guys are bumped up..

I know not everyone is a fan of the new SS Pepsi but it does seem to have gauged a lot of interest. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was the new Daytona (lists wise anyway)...

This logic will end up here (in the US) eventually. It's only a matter of time, especially with the younger demographics beginning to show much more interest in luxury watches. Will the 'recommendation' of withholding the warranty card and removing stickers impact all customers, I doubt it...but we'll see.

Personally it doesn't bother me - I remove stickers before leaving the AD - and haven't looked at a warranty card in ages...they all stay locked up -- but -- I certainly understand some being bothered. I have a great friend who has a WONDERFUL Rolex collection....(i.e. All 4 Daytonas, all SD variants etc) and wears NONE of them -- they all stay in boxes with stickers on etc. It's just his thing. He's not into flipping or selling Just collecting. Done understand it? HECK NO - but it's his $$ and how he does it.

good points.

younger buyers don't have the patience to play games and they'll be early adopters of the eventual Rolex Tudor e-commerce rollout.

Would not be legal in US.

they could make the warranty non transferrable going forward if they wanted. They cant retroactively change it to watches already sold.

They could also go the AP route. They include a warranty sold with the watch which follows the watch and an additional warranty for registering. That second/additional warranty isnt part of the sale and CAN be made to be non transferrable. So, Rolex could sell all watches with a 90 day warranty hypothetically which follows the watch. Then the owner can register it with Rolex and get a 5 year extended warranty which is only for the original purchaser for example. That way secondary market watches would have no warranty.

There are plenty of ways to do it if they wanted.

when your boss encourages you to stay late to get a project done, its not really a suggestion. Ultimately the AD is on the hook if these watches are flipped so most are heeding the "suggestion".

The UK is a very different situation to most places anyway in regard to flipping and scarcity.

I’m no expert and I’ve never purchased from Grey Dealer (don’t intend to either).

But doesn’t the warranty card has to have an AD stamp for warranty to work? Do you get that even when buying from Grey? Based on what I read, most come with blank cards and no cards at all!

if you are referring to AP then yes... that is the initial warranty. You then register the watch for an additional 3 years. Almost all secondary market watches come from an AD somewhere. I am saying having a two step warranty process eliminates the need for that additional warranty to "follow the watch"... they could cut the sales warranty down to almost nothing and offer an extended warranty to the original purchaser for registering the watch. Problem solved with this whole "sales warranty has to follow the watch" argument.

Different perceptions mate. If he encourages me to work after hours to get something done and I don’t, I may not get that promotion but surely I cannot be reprimanded for it!

Rules are rules and encouragements are, well just that. I am not debating the reality and the practice of UK ADs, just pointing out wrong facts that are being misinterpreted from the letter.

I never said they were rules, just posted the said picture people had mentioned!

My AD states their rules are sized and stickers removed, and now they have said certain models will have the warranty card withheld for 6-12 months, but like always they do make exceptions

Fair, apologies if I put words in your mouth. I just see many running off with this letter as a rule when it isn’t.

If Rolex recommends and encourages something, surely the AD can make it a rule, but that would be as you said AD specific and with exceptions to certain customers of course.

Cheers

my AD doesnt do this to me.... probably does with other people. So it depends on how well they know you. Some random person off the street and they are more skeptical so its a judgement call for sure. Its the trend, not an absolute.

I don’t have a problem with any part of the policy, with the exception of holding the guarantee card, it’s my property when I purchase the watch, end of discussion. If this does become official policy I’ll be moving to another AD.

The fact that I’ve bought 3 pieces from the same store and that I’m able to present them all on demand is evidence enough that I’m not a dealer/flipper.

And if I was, I’d simply use a false name/address and PAYG phone number at multiple ADs, to circumvent the ‘multi-list’ problem.

Good shout but I'd be worried if I was stopped by the local plod and asked to explain why I had five PAYG mobiles in the car accompanied with the same number of different email addresses/ identities.

this sounds a lot like getting rare bourbon and whiskey from local stores...waiting lists, people calling as things are released, following delivery trucks, etc.

Funny how it works in niche markets.

Interesting thread. I popped into WoS Regent Street yesterday enquiring about an Explorer1. Got the message about adding my name to the expression of interest rather than a waiting list...

Stopped by Mappin and told the same thing and that doing it again was pointless as they are the same chain.

What concerns me is that the bloke in WoS was so laissez faire about it, virtually unwilling to enter in to any conversation. He had an Omega lapel badge so was probably covering the Rolex corner during lunch. What are the chances that the card with my details on have gone into the recycling.

I'll wait a couple of weeks then I'm going to ask them to verify they have noted my expression of interest.
