The market isn't settling anytime soon. As many have said, if you are ok with spending the extra $$ I think it's worth it given market value and the 2 year wait you've already incurred. Start enjoying it.

no way, out of principle I am not paying that much extra... and I, personally do not like those who wanna get "rich" selling their Daytona because others can't get hold of one.

17.4k new is way under the current market price. Whch is more like 20k +. Still, I wouldn't pay it. I have to check myself when I get tempted to pay a premium like this. Don't get caught up in the hype.

I’m in the same boat. Despite being “5th” in the queue with my local Irish dealer I'm no closer. Prices this side of the pond are getting crazy (Eur 20k) for BNIB white. I really really want but it’s starting to take the proverbial. I’ll treat myself on the the birth of my first child in sept god willing. ⏱

A lot of people find spending $12k on a watch that doesn't even have a Date function to be ridiculous. You are asking a bunch of Rolex / watch addicts whether spending $5k extra to get the watch you have wanted for years is worth it or not??
Go for it if you like it and it makes you happy. With the rest of us crazies around, it will be a lot more stable investment than say Bitcoin, that is for sure.

I suppose the real question is, if the watch had a $17,500 retail price and no wait list, would you buy it?
Either the watch is worth that much to you or it's not. In the current environment, MSRP is largely irrelevant, so it's just a matter of whether you're happy to pay what the watch actually costs. I myself would rather get a Royal Oak for the same amount of money (and I'm very close to doing so, in fact), but that's just personal preference. If the Daytona is a $17,500 watch to you, then go for it. (Actually, I'm in a similar situation with the 15400, in that white and black ones are casually available at MSRP but there's a premium on blue. So far, I apparently don't think a blue is worth more. But, I might change my mind on that.) |

If you're going to flip it - no.
If you want to keep it forever and pass it down (and can afford it) - yes. |

.....and to add, get yourself a nice day-date instead. that's a watch that makes more sense at that money. Daytona doesn't.

How do you know that? Maybe the seller paid 6K over and is taking a loss. The question to me is how does this price compare to the market value.
External change but not simply cosmetic, imho. The bezel is so much more robust than the stainless one. I really believe calling it a cosmetic change is to sell short the watch. |

I say go for it! Sometimes it's simple as you have it or you _never_ have it, very few was able to get SS Daytona at MSRP at AD. Many of ADs don't have have waiting list for non-customers, these watches are saved for their VIP customers.

A bit simplistic thinking. I think in this game it's about you and what you get, I wouldn't worry about what others get selling the watch to you because if the guy doesn't sell you that watch he will sell it to others. Beside maybe didn't get it at MSRP himself.

If time is money -and another 2 years may go by before the Daytona500 is readily available at MSRP- then the premium works out to about 30¢ per hour over those 2 years.

The 116520 is a lovely watch, but I never even considered wearing a daytona till the release of the 116500. It’s a very different watch when you think about it that way. It’s one of my all time favorites now. |

Ask yourself the question as it's fairly subjective....was the premium you would have paid upon release (also right around $5k) worth the 2 years you've been waiting for the watch?
Chances are the pricing is going 1 way and I still sense Rolex's MSRP in general rising around the corner..... |

Hard NO... Go get an AP for that kind of coin, or be smart/save $, and get a very nice JLC. The Daytona is nice, but not that nice.

To be fair the 520’s SS bezel was a scratch magnet, and the tachymeter scale nearly worthless in practical terms. Now the 500’s ceramic bezel doesn’t scratch like SS, but is equally impractical.
I think a Sub-C bezel would be more helpful since I could Time two event segments independently, one with fine precision for up to 24 hours and one with course precision for up to an hour. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

B. “Price gouging”? That’s a little far fetched. We’re not talking about food, shelter or gasoline in a time of crisis. This is a pure luxury item and nothing else. no one is suffering here whether you’re paying the premium or waiting it out. It’s almost a comical topic when you think about how insignificant this issue is. |
