I'd never own a PCL watch as my only piece. Hell, I don't think I could only have a Rolex in my collection as there are some days where you just want to wear something else (controversial I know).

Get your BLNR. You obviously love it. Just remember, it'll scratch easy and you'll need something to partner it. Don't get the Tudor if it'll push back your BLNR. That thing is hard to come by and you can always sell it on and break even or even make some money.

If you can get both then get both. They are quite different pieces. I'd recommend giving something like a Seiko SKX a go. It's a reliable watch, with excellent history, and it will make a great partner to the BLNR.

I don’t find any of the “non-jeweled” Rolexes to be flashy. This is because I would be comfortable wearing any of them. Watches become flashy as soon as you are not comfortable wearing it. 99% of people will not pay any attention to your watch... but you will want to be comfortable wearing it!

Find a watch that sings to your heart! It will be right for you!

I bought the red bezel black bay, I was disappointed with the thickness of the watch, I was able to return for sub c date, happy I did.

I don't get these threads on BLNR or LN or even SubC being 'blingy', they are stainless steel mostly brushed sport rolex, they're not exactly a Graff hallucination, just a stainless steel watch.

I don’t even notice the PCL’s on my BLNR as much now that I’m used to wearing it. Besides you’d rather get the Rolex now, and have no regret later. Trust me. It’s an absolute beauty!

It’s all in relation to the preceding models. Many of us see the 6-digit models as a sea change for the brand.

No but I’ve bought a slew of others

And regretted it...I just keep getting pulled back...and have finally come to terms with the fact it’s the only brand for me...I love vintage and new...have a seadweller 43mm arriving today.

Tudors look great but simply my personal preference is Rolex on an oyster bracelet. Period. Again, just my personal taste!

If you getting a Tudor now is to get a Rolex in future.

Don't buy Tudor now. Just save more and get Rolex later.

In a somewhat of a rare occurrence for me, I chatted about watches with a guy sitting near me at a coffee shop yesterday. He was wearing a fantastic 16800 left to him by his uncle, and, I must admit, I enjoyed talking to him about the Tudor Date+Day I was wearing, because they’re just a lot more rare to see in the wild, so I think he really got a kick out of it.

An old style Tudor is a little more “inside baseball,” which is fun when you’re nerding out about watches. Maybe it’s because I’ve already owned Rolex watches, but I felt no brand envy at all. It was nearly the opposite.

I think you should go for what ever that makes the most sense for you when it comes to spending an amount of money that you and your wife are comfortable with and choosing the watch you think looks the best without caring what you think others may think.

When it comes to retaining value, I think you might be wrong here. Tudor has been a sleeping brand for a long, long time. It is only over the last 5-6 years Tudor has really started pushing out new models and doing big marketing campaigns and building up their brand again.

At the same time we see Rolex closing AD's all over the world, pushing prices and limiting supply.

So I think a big change is happening now. My guess is that the company behind Rolex and Tudor now want a much bigger share of the high end watch market. So they are pushing Rolex up a notch to an even higher end at the same time as they are making room for Tudor and position it in the spot Rolex is leaving behind. Positioning Tudor to compete with the likes of Omega etc. So I think you will see Tudor growing in popularity and price over the next years. I also think Tudor is where they will test out much new technology before implementing it in Rolex.

So in percentage I think Tudor prices may grow faster then Rolex, but this is just my guess.

Still it proved to be the “gateway” to spending Rolex prices and within 30 days had a Datejust and in just over a year had an Explorer II (and Grand Seiko) as well. The Tudor still has a regular place in my rotation I’m glad it’s not a Rolex, but it didn’t scratch the itch to have a Rolex, only a Rolex can do that.

I did the same thing with a Tag Carrera Chrono 2 years ago. I thought that was a lot of money for a watch but once I got past that mindset I went straight to Rolex.
I now have 3 Rolexes, but I still wear the Tag occasionally, and truly like it.
It's also my only Chrono.

By having doubts you answered your own question. Don't settle, if you really want a Rolex than why buy a Tudor ?

I agree with the advice to not settle. Ive done it before you’ll flip it later at a $1000-1500 loss for what you really wanted in the first place. That being said i think my blue pelagos is the best watch i own. The tudor watches are very high quality even compared to the rolex i own and several (bb red or blue, pelagos blue) have a fun factor that you dont get in rolex until you really step up in price (smurf, hulk, pepsi etc)

Sure, I wish my Tudor Day Date was a Rolex Day Date, but at less than 1/10th the price of the Rolex, I shouldn't be complaining.

I bought a pelagos thinking I would be happy with it as a daily...sold it after a couple months and bought a 116610 and 100% don't regret it.

If you can afford to buy either brand, then value retention should be an irrelevance. I’ve bought a tt gmt, a hulk and a pelagos along with a rose gold dd for the wife. I have an old tag and omega, and have no interest in what any of them are worth.
I’ve bought for significant birthdays, and achievements in my life, and will never sell any of them.
If you can afford to buy one then a couple of grand either way when you come to sell will make no difference to your life. If it will then you shouldn’t be wasting your money on watches.

Buy what you like at the time. If you love watches you’ll buy another one in a few years.

This very Monday I went to my AD with the intention of getting listed for the Sub C, tried one on and got on said list.

On my way back to the car I saw the Tudor Pelagos LHD in the window of another AD and tried it on purely out of curiosity. Mind completely blown. Instantly preferred everything about this watch and it wasn't even on my radar because i thought it might be too big for me, but I was wrong.

So in short no, I don't wish my Tudor was a Rolex.

Go with what your heart desires most and you won't go wrong.

I love these threads - there is always something comforting in predictability!

in answer to the original question - no

every purchase requires some compromises - unless you are one of the very lucky ones - and so I doubt many tudor purchases are really done as alternatives to an available rolex alternative

you may as well ask - have you ever bought a rolex and wished it was a Patek Philippe? the answer to that one is a big yes for me

Tudor is a great brand, no reason to regret owning one instead of owning a Rolex
