I would welcome a new rule, totally fed up with these hold value and investment threads.

Ban everything!! But if I can be serious for a second I'd really only want a ban on the pics of watches with your beaded man-bracelets. Those put the "tool" in tool-watch and also the words "bluesy" & "Batman". I'm back to the beginning , go ahead and ban everything. And one more time : watches are not investments.

Any answer as to why the original TRF founder Mark left the forum? Did he lose the watch bug?

Only topics NOT about watches (i.e. politics, religion) should be banned here. If it's a watch related topic, it should be fair game.
If you truly hate the topic, don't open the thread! I'll never relate to people so quick to censor topics or art they don't like. Just don't take part in them. Why do some people need to control what other people like to talk about? |

I agree sometimes it sounds like it's all about the money but I think much of it is brought on more by everyone's frustrations of availability and the grey market pricing.

A) A sub-forum discussing pricing and future expected values would be nice as it would declutter the main forum. As a frequent reader, these topics do, as OP suggested, get old. And they tend to permeate every discussion. But having a separate sub-forum for "value" topics (what discount is appropriate?; what is it worth?; will it likely go up in value?', etc.) might be a step in the right direction.
B) I have learned a lot here in 1 1/2 years, and it has fed my knowledge of and interest in watches. But one of the worst aspects of reading TRF is the constant focus on value retention. I wear my expensive watch every day, and I take care of it. But I don't want to think, "Gee, I just nicked the case. Probably cost me $3,000 in value." I never ever thought about my DJ that way in the first 30 years of wearing it. Overall, I enjoy this place, but there are only so many topics to discuss and some of them get beat to death on a regular basis.

Um but there are rules here such as no discussions on weapons, politics or religion among other things. That's dictated for a reason and agreed upon by you as a member and donator. Hard to say I don't like "this" but "that" is ok. There's no difference in what the op is suggesting but I can see this subject isn't as tense or that wars have been fought by...but still a bit irritating to constantly read about buying related solely to investing as the main consideration.

I'm here for the love of watches and the technical and historical data related to them, Rolex in particular, not investing or whether I should buy this or that because it may be discontinued so it can be worth a xyz. |

Would now be a good time to ask the posters who are *not* pledge members to donate? I bet it costs a lot to maintain this awesome forum where we all air our opinions on "free" speech and the like. Just sayin. Contribute here:

Man, those poll options are heavily bias... Just because you vote no doesn't mean you love talking about money all the time. I can't choose either of these

The options are indeed a bit right sided either way. Neither answer is really reasonable if that's the right word.

The merits, function, and aesthetics of a blue dial Sky Dweller are much more attractive to me at $14,400 than at $19,000. Likewise, if I can save 15% on a fluted bezel blue dial SS Datejust, it might seem like a better buy to me at $7900 than at $9,350. For many people, price impacts buying decisions, even in the luxury market. So I predict that pricing, discounts, and premiums will continue to be discussed here. And I think that's reasonable for a forum focused on buying something. |

Agreed. Censorship is bad in any form. Everyday we wake up to the same things - it's hard to get a ss sports model rolex, these are not investments, and water is wet and the sun is bright. I still click on the threads anyways because I like having an outlet to read what other people like me with disposable income do as it pertains to this hobby. I also work in finance, so I can talk about $ all day, but I'm not posting about depreciating assets holding value.

Your poll needed an additional option in my opinion. Something along the lines of “I don’t care.”
Anyway, I tend to ignore the majority of the posts on this forum, so I don’t see these posts as a burden to anyone, perhaps excepting the moderators who should probably read more posts than the average member. Of course they primarily rely on people reporting offending posts as they cannot be expected to read them all. I recommend just doing what I do and skimming right over most of the posts that don’t seem to interest you. You can also block people that you don’t want to read, perhaps many of these kinds of posts are written by the same handful of people? I block people with some frequency on a couple of forums as there are a good many unhappy people out there who want nothing more than to argue, spread negativity, or display wealth to a pathologic degree, even for luxury goods forums.

If I were OP, which I am not, I would start my own Rolex forum and make prospects swear to never, ever mention money.

I didn’t vote - but your question generated a new idea. A blocking feature so you can block displaying thread with certain key words.
In your case: worth and investment. Then people who like to discuss watch values in places like the Vintage section are free to opine while you won’t even see them in your list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Don't try and a censor a forum. If you don't like investments threads, then I would suggest you don't read them. Simple really.
