I have owned multiple of both of these. I currently wear a day date. I feel what you’re saying: these watches are very similar in appearance. Both have amazing provenance and the DD was the last watch designed by Hans Wilsdorf himself.

I wouldn’t worry about the heritage. Both have great ones. I wouldn’t worry about the prestige. To the average person on the street they are both Rolexes. I wouldn’t worry about the durability. Despite supposedly being dress watches they are actually quite sporty and durable. I wouldn’t worry about flashiness. They are both flashy.

So what’s the difference besides the day of the week on the dial? Precious metal. My choice is either white gold or platinum. A little less flashy.

Thanks; Gorcious! Smaller, original size doesn’t look too small at all!

If you want the day of the week emblazoned over the top of your dial, 1950s marquee-style, then get the Day-Date. Otherwise go for a Datejust. Either way, it sounds like you might well be ready for a vintage piece.

The Hodinkee Talking Watches with Jack Nicklaus and his 50-year-old gold DD on a president bracelet is really great.

Really gives you a sense of the classic style of the DD.

Amazing article and video!!

It just struck me:
It must feel great to be just a one-watch-guy. All the memories, all the life: just one watch in hand.

Could that be possible!?!?

I’ve been seeing pictures of a black face with black numerals day date that has my head turning. I need to find that model.

I have a dj41 and about to pick up a DD40. I will tell you I feel that I can wear the dj41 daily,... the day date a little too in ur face for daily wear.

As someone that doesn’t care about what people think. I actually worried how people would perceive my opulence.

I would wear a nautilus to work but probably not a DD40

Just something to consider
