[QUOTE=jstan9;8791144]This is where I am. I never thought in a million years I’d want anold man’s’ yellow gold Rolex but if I can save up enough, and if my SO approves, I’d love to get a DD or the Cellini moonphase!

I never said yellow gold, but that is exactly what I am now debating. I have always said I will get WG as it flies under the radar, but now the yellow gold has been appealing to me and have been looking at the differences between yellow gold and rose gold.
If I can only wrap my 30 year old brain around the idea of getting an "old mans' watch.

Thanks all! Rant done.
This part of the post I can agree with. There are WAY too many people joining this forum who are looking to aquire high end watches for status and asking these questions because they can't afford to lose money on them and that's irresponsible IMHO. I don't bash them, but it makes me shake my head in disbelief.

My advise to them is don't buy things you can't afford if your other priorities are not taken care of first. There are a lot more watches I could buy if I thought they'd hold their value similar to a savings account, but I just wouldn't do that. We all should have our emergency funds in savings (6+ months), our retirement accounts funded, and debt under control before thinking about frivoulus expenses.

I feel a lot of people overthink value retention nowadays. I've bought a couple of watches that I would lose my shirt on today if I ever thought of selling them off. (Piaget, Movado)

But I love them and they sang to me, and thankfully, they still do to this day years later. But that is not why people typically get into the watch game today. People's budgets are stretched, but they still want nice things, and don't want to have to take a hit of thousands of dollars if things go sideways and they need to shuffle money around.

I get it.

But as you said, when every other thread (almost literally) is about either the SS piece shortage or "which watch will keep or increase value" in the general section, I simply don't bother to reply to any of them.

One interesting side benefit to the General section being what it is the last while, I have made a point to visit several of the other non RGD forums as of late. Like this one!!!

What's the solution? If the mods banned every person that started a thread of:

-Which watch will retain or increase value;
-Why can't I buy a SS piece at MSRP and/or with a discount;
-Please explain to me why a watch isn't an investment;
(that last one )

We'd lose 20-30% of our people in short order. I just hope that people can move on and re-focus on what matters - mostly, how about a love for great timepieces?
