Step away from that watch, Sir. If that was my watch and those scratches were the result of me wearing it, then that watch would look more beautiful to me than a factory fresh watch without a scratch on it. I would not polish. I would think about getting a new bezel, but no polish.

I would agree, but it was pre-loved by someone else. I just recently acquired it.

Looks better IMO. I'd need more pics to be sure or have watch in hand.

If all the lugs are that sharp, I'd leave the watch alone and enjoy it. Look at my zenith that's unpolished...been around the block and then some.

Good honest wear is a ok by me.

Love that Zenith! The wear does add charm to it. You’re really making me second guess my choice!

That watch is full of somebody's else his DNA, a full service, new bezel and polish will make it really yours and you can start to build your own "character".
Funny how sometimes people describe a damaged watch as such

The estimate

Overhaul: $850
Chrono Reset Pusher P502: $225
Crown 704: $87
Crystal: $120
Caseback: $135
Bezel: $255
Good move.

I’ll say it. The watch looks like crap. Have it restored to its former beauty.

My Bluesy is my daily but I would lean towards leaving it alone if it was.

I don't think it looks like crap, well...maybe from the harsh lighting in the first photo yes. But it has an old-school character that hopefully I can create on my own after a complete polish.

IF the RSC removes excessive material (which IMO they normally do), a speciality house like LAWW or Rikki can’t make it magically reappear. The bezel and caseback are only original once, and Rolex will NOT return the originals !

Please elaborate how an independent would somehow magically polish it so much better than RSC?

Oh and polishing always affects the shape, RSC or not.

The result depends on the particular watchmaker who is doing the work, you can have great work and bad work done by both RSC and independent.

Regarding the case, IMHO the edges are in pretty good shape for the age and wear of the watch, and I trust RSC will do a great job.

With LAWW, I do understand they 'cannot add thickness to a thin lug' as they say on their website. But what I am getting at, is that if there are still deeper dents that RSC decided not to smoothen, I will take it LAWW to repair the remaining damage after my 2 year warranty expires. From my understanding, if I rejected any polishing from RSC and took it to LAWW immediately after the overhaul at RSC, Rolex would void my warranty due to LAWW working on it.

I'm not really worried about the caseback and bezel being replaced since these are replaced quite frequently, especially the bezel, during service, and accepted in the preowned market. IMO changing it would very little affect the resale value. I plan to keep the watch for a long time so resale value doesn't really play that big of a part in my decision.

I have to agree here. We only hear the rare bad anecdotes on the forums. I've never had a bad experience at RSC. RSC has the proper tools to execute excellent work as much as the next highly-praised indy. They may not do laser-welding like LAWW outside of Geneve, but for a standard polish, I have confidence.

doesn't look bad enough to polish -- particularly on the instagram post... I would hesitate to replace all the original items unless they may lead to the watch getting damaged.

Also, then when you add a scratch or two, you will be less upset about it!

An 'unpolished" watch is one thing. A ratty-looking unpolished watch is another.

I would have that Daytona refinished or "polished" for sure.

Based on the picture I would get it polished. From that point on it becomes your individual piece of art.

Why don't you send it straight to LAWW and have them do everything, from the complete overhaul to the case refinishing? They do fantastic service work as well, and you'll have their warranty afterwards too.

Oh, and not to mention it'll be cheaper than RSC.

If it's never been polished I'd leave it that way; if it has, I'd replace the bezel and give it a light one..I personally prefer not to polish my watches though.

I was quoted $1,000 for an overhaul, which is more than the $850 by RSC with their international warranty, and includes the refinishing.

Send it to LAWW and watch it come back looking brand new. They can laser weld to diminish lug loss too.

Laser weld to diminish 'lug loss'?!?!

The only time a laser weld is used on a Rolex case is when there's a big dent or chip...
