41 for sure as it looks masculine, whereas the 36mm looks way too dainty and feminine imo.

It's funny, I find it has the opposite effect. Large watches usually make the person look smaller. Heck, Ryan Gosling wears 34mm as his daily!

The 36 is a classic look, the 41 a more modern look. With your wrist I would wear 36.

Like others have said, get the 41. If you don’t you’ll have that thought going forward, wondering “I wish this watch was bigger”... I recently bought a white DJ41 and it is the perfect size. Slimmer than the old DJII. I also have my dad’s old 36 and it seems soooo small whenever I wear it. The 41 is very comfy yet has presence. You’re choice though. Good luck.

I've seen the 36 DJ blue/roulette in person and it's a stunner.

About watch sizes I'll say only that I've seen more than a few women who rocked Subs and GMTs better than most of the men I've been seeing wearing them. If you're going to gender freak about 5mm you'd better be picking up your game.

Had the same dilemma, I think my wrist size is about the same as yours.

Go with 36, leave the 40mm or above to the sports models.

Datejust 41 is actually 39.xx mm. Love the new proportions on the case and dial.

The 36 is a very classy and classical sized Rolex. It will never go out of style.
The current fad of bigger is better will eventually go out of style once people get tired of it.
I mean who wants to wear a wall sized clock around their wrist? Come to think of it, lots of people do. But that never did it for me. I have 8.25" wrists and wear a DJ36. Sure. some say it's a lady's watch, but quite frankly, I don't give a little rat's a**. I like it, and that's all that matters.

So choose the watch YOU like, and don't worry about what other people may tell you. In the long run, you will be the only person who will see the watch on your wrist every day. Or if you don't look at it, at least you KNOW it's there. Your opinion is the only one that matters here.
Good luck.

DJ41 vs. DJ36. Not sure on best size.

Is a DJ41 a wall clock then?

It’s less than 41mm and not sure it falls in to that category?!

Just out of curiosity, what size do you consider too large? Not for this chap who’s thread this is, but in general?

I think the 41 is a very different watch from the 36.

He's (Carlito) talking nonsense because what looks large on one mans wrist may look small / normal on another.

You really cannot over generalise or state that a watch is too big, because it simply depends on the main variable. Wrist size.

In general he is right the oversized watches are a fad... the 46mm++ beasts will date. But this shouldn't be news to anyone, fads come and go.

Regarding the DJ-41 its actually sized @ 39.5mm - DJ41 on anyone wrists that is above 7 inches will never date like the large fad watches. It will become the new classic 36. As we as a species are getting larger, not smaller.

Edit: The one real exception to that is true dive watches.... personally if I'm diving and I want to use a mechanical... the bigger the better even 60mm is fine. But in reality, who does that? You use a dive computer like a normal human! haha

41.

As stated in a previous post, a close up picture of one's wrist makes the watch look bigger.
A better perspective would be to look in a mirror from a couple feet away.
I don't know what size your wrist is, but mine is 7", and I find that a 36 looks too small on me.
I have a DJ41, and it fits me perfectly.

Both look good but I prefer the bezel of the 36 so that would be my choice.

I think we’re all used to wrist shots enough at this point to take the distortion of a close up shot into account. I also have a 7” wrist, but prefer 36mm. It was the classic Rolex size for 50+ years, like a good pair of Chuck Taylor’s, Raybans, etc.

DJ41 is 39.5mm as per my previous post. So I don't think the extra 1.5mm would make that much of a difference.

It's all subjective and based on your own wrist size which is a variable.

Shape too, I think. My wrist is 7", and although I can wear the 41 easily, it does not look right to me as compared to the more classically proportioned/sized 36.

It’s all about dial size. I prefer the old Rolex philosophy of making nearly everything with the same bracelet and approximate dial size, and the difference in case size simply came down to the different bezel options. My 39.2mm Aqua Terra reads larger on my wrist than my 40mm Sub, because the Aqua Terra is all dial, whereas the Sub reads more similarly to my 36mm DJ/DD, because they have the same dial size.

The Sub is technically larger, but, due to the larger dial, look at how the Omega reads as being larger.
