It's like so many other things in life, we often want much more than we need and if we can afford it we indulge.
I think there are two different questions here. To me it's "how many allow me to feel like I'm wearing a really spot on choice every time I'm wearing a watch". Of course we can wear divers with a business suit, but it's really not as good a choice as a Datejust now is it? I have seen collections here of 3-4 watches that cover a wide variety of situations very well. Most of us would be well served by an Explorer I or Submariner and maybe nothing else. I see collections here that are just a dozen different Submariner and/or GMT's. That doesn't appeal to me for many reasons but it works for that collector. so the second question is more for a "I want them all" collector. They want the black one, the white one, the blue one and the precious metal one because "they really are completely different watches". I have a dozen or so pool cues and that's 10 or 11 more than anyone needs. I'm sure we all have our "thing we have way too many of". It really comes down to whether you want to have as few as possible or as many as possible. |

But i think i would add something ultra cool in the future to my 2.... But i am also not sure yet.. We will see……….. I'm still debating if i think it is ok to spend my money wheter or not..

This is a tough question. I can think of at least 20 watches that I'd love to own as part of my collection. Particularly some all time classic watches. Having thought about it, I could narrow my list down to 12 watches, but I could add to that easily. I think it would be difficult to go with a few. There's just too many nice ones out there!

Perfect size would be 5 watches:
1x casual dress watch (simple, time only like PP5196, PP5078, Chronometre Contemporain, etc.) 1x dress watch (complicated or playful like Lange 1, PP5170, etc.) 1x sports watch (time/date only like VCO 2000V, 15202) 1x diver (like BP FF, Sub) 1x pilot (like GMT-Master, Breguet Type 20, Moonwatch) |

For usage, I think 2 are enough, 1 dressy and 1 casual. But for a collector, it is infinity.

One can never have too many watches, just like things that go boom.

Why should someone limit his collection?
If you like a watch and you can afford it, why not buy it? What is the logic of limiting a pleasure? Life is too short... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

@DGB maybe because some have financial limits and can't always dedicate their salary to watches only. Also I'd rather have have 5 watches from BP, PP, VC, A. Lange and FPJ than plenty of Rolexes or Omegas.

For me, I really think the answer is 1 but I’m going to end up with 2 because I’ve got 2 kids.

3 to five.
Unfortunately I am over by a few at the moment... always searching for a way to make necessary adjustments.

I’ve just gone down to 1 now. Gave my IWC away to my bro as it just wasn’t getting any wrist time since adding the AP.
Have my eye on something else, but will see. I think I’ve found my perfect match already, so struggle to reconcile adding another to sit on my shelf 90% of the time.

I was going to initially reply to the OP that this is an impossible question ... then I saw your post and have to agree with it. The reality is the answer will be different for everyone and the bottom line will be about enjoyment. I will admit my collection is too large, but when I look at each piece , I thoroughly enjoy 80% of them when I put them on and would Not want to part with them. Even the ones I wear only a few times year. The advantages of a larger collection , to me, is that you can wear something you haven’t worn in a while and get that feeling you got when first aquiring it. Like going shopping but it’s your own store . Not sure if I’m explaining it well, hopefully you (TRF) get the point ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Every time I seem to have arrived at the perfect number of watches in my collection, I seem to find another great piece to add.
