I bought it because I wanted it now, not years from now, it’s as simple as that.

I had both the BLNR and HULK before they were crazy popular with the watch and dare we say non-watch community. I got bored and sold both, and then about 2 years later there's this silly crazy for these so called 'hard to get' watches. News flash everyone: they're mass produced and sold by the boatloads, but getting into the wrong hands (i.e. the unregulated market we created with our own greed and internet hype).

Bingo!! Listen to this man.

At least there are some ppl on this forum with a brain.

Classifying the hulk/blnr/blro etc......as rare is just stupid.

The BLNR has been around > 5 years, the HULK nearly 10 years now - come on ppl!!!! There are tens of 1000s of these available everywhere. If you think your LV or BLNR is rare than pigs can fly.

I don't think anyone is saying they are rare and worth a ton of money in the future. People are saying that in December 2018 you either pay grey prices or you don't get a watch. I don't even know why that needs to be said, it's common sense.

the market is now...I buy a watch strictly because I want it to wear. If I have to pay a premium to have it now, I make the decision that it is either worth the premium or not. I do not buy it for what it might fetch 5 years from now.

I think this is the key response, I don’t think it is a bubble as a bubble happens on its own. I think the issue of scarcity is manipulation. These watches are not rare watches, there is no shortage of raw material and Rolex knows that there is demand for them.

I think the watches are being sold to grey dealers exclusively for a premium (ADs should loose their contracts for this). The grey market is controlling the supply of these watches by not putting everything up for sale, but keeping them in safes. Keep in a safe for 6 months and raise your rate of return by 15% by creating a shortage.

It is the same thing with OPEC, only a certain group has control over supply and by cutting output or raising output they control the price of oil. We know there is crap load of oil out there and a select few countries decide how much of it is brought to market.

Just my theory. People didn’t wake up 2 years ago and say i need to have a Rolex. As inexpensive as the watch is compared to luxury brands, its still not cheap for an average middle class citizen. Just doesn’t add up.

Oh come on !! You don´t really believe that the real market out there really cares about what a bunch of guys like us talk in a forum like this do you ? You might argue that enthusiasm for a watch is contageous and that youtube or the internet or a forum might contribute to that but that is part of reality. I dare say a much larger market exists out there that really set the price for the watches based on supply and demand alone.

Me personally, I'd never pay over MSRP for a Rolex. I was lucky enough to get the BLNR and 116610LV at a time where I could get them at retail or for a slight discount. I remember when you could walk into an AD and just pick one up (which is what I did). I do appreciate that this is no longer the case and that if someone wants one today, who am I to say what a fair price is?

I know it varies depending on the AD and location, but I do not think the wait list is THAT long for either model. The BLRO and stainless Daytona are obviously different stories. I just find this whole current Rolex market absolutely insane and it has turned me off from the brand. Again, maybe that's because I already have the references I want. I just think it sucks for someone who is getting into Rolex and either has to: wait months or years to get what he or she wants, ends up settling for a reference their heart wasn't set on, or has to pay way over MSRP to acquire something in a reasonable time line.

My point is nothing has changed from 2 years ago, Rolex prices have always been priced based on inflation. When the BLNR first came out there was no shortage, you were able to go into an AD and pick one up, just like i did. Since the BLNR only a few watches have come out that garnered attention (Daytona C, Skydweller, BLRO). You’re saying the entire planet has gone Rolex crazy over a couple of new watches?

Sounds bad but yeah, I believe there is a craze like never before. I see everybody acting on it, whether you are talking about ADs stashing or hoarding the watches in the safe (I don´t buy this one bit because they are not allocated for this), or Chrono 24 establishing a price range for the watches which no matter how you look at it is well above MSRP even in the low end, or our own TS in here. It all points to an unrealistic MSRP for the most part, which is only availbale if 1) they have the watch, or 2) you buy a whole lot of jewlery or other goods bundled. Then, and only then, do you have access to the MSRP on a hot watch, MAYBE.
