Incoming!!!
So I've been lusting over the Submariner for two years.
Last week, my wife was at the local AD having some work done on her wedding and engagement rings and I asked her to ask the AD if they had a Sub, the wait list, and all that. She got some information (none in stock) but not all the details I needed/wanted. I ended up calling the AD myself and she said they could "order" one, which of course just lets Rolex know they want one, no guarantees, the usual (all in a friendly, helpful way, being clear they would do what they could and could probably get one at some point). So I go with my wife to pick up the rings today and the store manager overhears us talking to the pickup clerk, sees me glance at the Rolex display (mostly DJs, a couple of Day/Dates, and a couple of Yacht Masters) and says, hey, were you the couple asking about a Sub last week. We say yes, he says, what do you know, we got our Q1 shipment last night (the empty boxes are still behind the counter) and I have one Submariner. There is supposed to be someone on the list ahead of you (he looks around) but you're here if you want to try it one. Hell yes I wanted to try it on. We start chatting about passing watches to our kids, I clearly know as much about Rolex as he does, and he seems genuinely happy to want to sell a watch to a local customer who is not going to flip it to the grey market. So he says, I know there is supposed to be someone ahead of you but they were noncommittal and you're here, so if you want it, hell with it, it's yours. Hell yes I wanted it, so on the counter goes my credit card. And now I'm the proud, proud owner of my personal grail watch, the 114060 Submariner. Right place. Right time. You all know this, but damn am I happy today! |
