Wow, fun response.

My question was in reaction to this statement: “It is incredibly demoralising to speak to people who come in and ask ‘do you have ANY sports pieces?’”

Of course it’s obvious to me that one goes in a store and seems completely lacks any sort of interest or enthusiasm about the watch and throws out that question “flippantly”, they might be looking for a quick buck and get the cold shoulder as a response. My question was framed more along the lines of an actual enthusiast who is asking what I consider to be a legitimate question.

But it’s all good. I get it.

Everyone is a client. Either yours or someone else’s, either now or later.

As for the "soul-destroying" comment, imagine if all you did all day was interact with rude and entitled nitwits, all asking for the same thing.

Imagine then, if that scenario repeated itself day after day for a year.

I think it would be demoralizing at best, soul-destroying at worst.
But that’s not reality and if you are in retail sales you had better be able to deal with difficult customers.

I know that the guys in my AD hate having to disappoint people all the time. They are not a chain, they genuinely care about their customers. It is tough for them. Equally, I really don’t think Rolex are doing anything wrong here.

Yes occasionally that’s a necessary part of being a retail sales person, but not constantly and I can attest that it is very draining when it’s the norm rather than the exception. Sales people are not robots no matter how much you think they should be able to just brush it off.

I believe the person in the OP was complaining about the quantity of difficult customers and less about the fact that difficult customers exist.
