Most of you aren't thinking right. If he can get a Sub without the 10 year wait and he has to buy a 3-4K piece... Then depending on what piece I would have picked it up too. A Tudor? Sure let's go. A 3-4K Tag, no chance. I'd probably take a 1K hit to the 3-4K tag when reselling it, but I'd still be keeping a Sub. Easy choice...

@op: Where was this?

Unfortunately this is a lot more common than most think.

Some get lucky with short waits, some need to build a relationship.

My moto, I never ever buy something to assist the ease of obtaining a Rolex. Of course, I buy other watches and tend to try to spend that money at the Rolex AD. At the end of the day, they are selling me something I can easily flip for a profit, the least I can do is give them my other purchases too.

This is very common. Don't see what the fuss is, if you don't like the deal, then walk, if you do, then go for it. I assume most of folks here are in capitalist economies, no different to the other person trying to make a living.

How the hell is this extortion or blackmail? The OP is hardly being forced or harmed by not taking the deal.

I don't like it, but if there is another watch that you or your missus or some jewellery you might want then make it work for you.

Ah, that is a good point, don't think any AD will like that getting out so maybe you could parlay that into a better deal. #blackmailtheblackmailer

Take a photo with your phone and tell them it and the story is going to Rolex and leave.

Not sure how successful it would be. Unless they receive detailed and contextually similar complaints from several customers it boils down to your word against the AD (unless they are stupid enough to put something in writing to you).

You can bet Rolex HQ receives thousands of emails/letters/calls from people trying to milk every possible scenario and making up whatever story they can to get their hands on a hot model. It's nearly impossible to tell the genuine ones from the liars and at the end of the day, even when it comes to posts this forum.

Package deals come in many forms these day from ADs .Seems everyone tries his own method ..buy a pm,buy a non sportie, buy jewellery ,wait four years, build a relationship, phone them often, visit them often .... and so it goes on and on .

Well, its good for the value of my collection.Thats the only positive.

For a Daytona C or SS Skydweller...maybe but a SUB, no way. Of course for a Daytona C they want at least a DD bundle. That was my offer in Germany. "You can purchase the Daytona C and pick it up tomorrow if you purchase this DD at full price"

I did ask about Ceraminc Daytona, Pepsi or Hulk and he said that he didn't have any but if he did I'd have to buy a PM piece as well. Very honest of him!

Don’t do it!

If people keep agreeing to things like this, one day we will have to bundle to buy a Datejust

What a world we live in. I think the bible lists the bundling of Subs as one of the signs of the end times.

I walked into an AD in Hong Kong today looking for a Bluesy and the sales associate told me he'd try to find me one if I bought a Tudor....

Walked two blocks to another AD and was able to buy a Bluesy on the spot.

These slimy ADs know the power they have with this shortage so they get bold and try this garbage. I'd walk and look elsewhere. He's basically asking for a multi-thousand dollar tax for the "favor" of doing his job - selling you a Rolex.

I'd also name the AD in this discussion.

Well, we’ve covered the angst and anger part. You could also just buy the wife/gf a nice pair of earrings and both enjoy your vacation souvenirs.

Let him know he's number one.

Be great if there was a way to report this extortion attempt to Rolex. I'm sure Rolex wouldn't want their ADs to use their product to force customers to buy extra items that they don't want or need.

1/ Ask for the manager and see what he/she says.

2/ If he/she still ask for a "bundle buy", let them know you will contact Rolex and make them aware about their sales practices.

3/ Walk away, subs are easy to get.

Only if it's something you'd want anyway in addition to the Sub.
Otherwise, no.

^^^^^^ this.

Also call Rolex and name and shame the dealer. Heck, name and shame them here too.

NAME AND SHAME may be the only way Rolex and other dealers realize they WILL BE named and shamed.
