Go in, speak with him in a respectful manner and when you’re about to leave, shake his hand and palm him a $100 bill. Tell him that there will be more of those if he delivers.

And a lot cheaper than spending $10K on diamonds!

One guy sent his wife into the dealer, and she was in there for a bit of time.... Not sure what she did to satisfy the manager, yet she did leave with the watch he wanted. Read into that as you so choose.

advice needed: how to build a relationship with AD without spending a lot of $$

Be persuasive and also be real. They wanna sell hot watch to people who are not going to flip it. Went to my closes ad and ask for gmt but gave me a no. I always go to her work place and just wave at her. She told me i have to buy a watch first before she can get me on that liist. She offered me ym but i declined and i said i will only buy a sub to get to the gmt. 5 weeks later she texted me if i want a no date sub. I couldnt believe it she sold me one of the hot watch right now. She could have sold it to walk in costumers or other client waiting for that watch and yet she gave it to me. Will she sell me a gmt someday now that she sold me a sub? I dont know but i was so happy she sold me a watch that i like as well . She told me not to flip it and she well sell me watches i like. I hope its true lol. So now i will wear the watch and wave at her every time i go to the mall to tell her i did not sell it and hopefully remember me when she gets a gmt.

THIS: buy from one of the two greys mentioned and pay the premium. In a month you won't remember what you paid anyway.

There are too many chasing watches there and you are wasting your time

Wait a few more months for demand to subside, owing to the worldwide economic slowdown.

Oh bother, now I'm sounding like one of those troll people they say are all over the web.

Whether you can afford to pay the grey market prices or not, you have to decide if you want to work within that system or not. I'm not a fan, but you're a big boy...so don't sweat it either way.

My advice would be to find a smaller, independent AD, drop by in person from time to time and get to know the sales staff, be honest and tell them your story as you've told here. Don't have a sense of entitlement and be patient
This right here is your best shot OP.

AD relationship costs money and being in San Francisco one of the most expensive cities in the US, it will cost even more, you can try the lip service but it can go so far. Rolex is materialistic and you have to spend $$$.

Btw, wait for your kids' college bills, your Rolex is much cheaper.

It all depends on the AD and how they go about their business and whether they like you or are receptive to your interest at the point that you show it.

I for one bought my Hulk from an AD that I have never spent a penny with. I went in, showed them interest and they realised I has my BLNR on and were happy to put me on the Hulk list. 3-4 months later I got called and went to pick it up.

Same situation with my BLNR but a different AD. This was my first purchase from the AD and I expressed interest and made sure I kept in contact with the sales rep. A few months later I got the call.

There are ADs that you can walk into and ask for any of these and get turned away. It’s a numbers game - try different AD, different tactics, different approaches and I’m sure you’ll get what you want...unless what you want is a Daytona!

My take is that it's not possible to build any meaningful relationship with most ADs without either a) having spent a lot of money there and/or b) having bought from them fairly regularly over a long period.

The reason I say this is because in my experience ADs who wish to sell a sought-after model like say the steel Daytona or Pepsi to any customer has to first clear the sale with their bosses. And the first thing those bosses will look for is the customer's purchase history - without one, there's no chance the sale would be approved.

From being to different ADs and talking to different sales people at all them, it seems to me like there's no one size fits all method. I know an AD that only sells hot pieces to largest customers and that's it. On the other hand I know an AD that sells them to anyone on the list. VIP customers might get them sooner, but you still have a chance of getting one.
