I am not a flipper and I am certainly very curious why what’s the big deal about that watch! I remember back in around 2008 I got my first 5980/1a in blue dial from the boutique we (me my husband and the store manager) were shocked to see floating mechanical wheel/part inside the case viewing from the back transparent display! The boutique took back the watch and I gave the 5980 a pass! I stayed clear of pp for more than a year or two. So I will never pay premium for it.
Of course I still bought a few nautilus but all I paid MSRP.. some with slight discounts too! ;)
I own 5711/1a white (usd18k), 5711/1a blue (usd19k), 5712r (usd26k) 5712/1a x2 (usd23k each), 5980/1a white (usd33k), 5980/1R (usd50k)
My point is, if the manufacturer dare to charge, customer will find reasons to support the asking price some how as long as the product is good.
I have met Francois-Paul Journe twice for lunch and dinner. I can tell you, he is very much a watchmaker, an artist, a fanatic of mechanical engineering.. hard to find the businessman side of him. Unlike Mr Richard Mille, which have the pleasure to meet up thrice so far. Mr Miller is certainly a businessman and a marvellous one too!
