I for one would love to see a 41mm version with more balanced proportions, 72hr movement, definitely steel bezel. Wouldn't mind a 24h hand on black dial 50 year Ed.

Recently picked up my new polar.
Would like to see a new version with some variation, a blue face version would defiantly go down well and similar to the JC SD Rolex have started to look at dial variants on special ed’s

If they keep everything the same but gave it a black non-rotating ceramic bezel and made the dial 41 or 40mm, it may end up being my favorite watch of all time.

Yeah Rolex is smart enough to not do that to maximize their differentiation from the GMT line.

GMT = classy version of Sub
Sub = classic sport watch
Sea Dweller = people who want bigger sub
Yacht master = larger range of price points that can't really overlap with the 2 lines above
Daytona = Chrono

Explorer = needs a new way to differentiate.

I own a 216710 Polar and love it! That being said, if they had the same maxi dial and orange GMT hand in a 40mm case with an updated movement, I'd be tempted to buy one. OR if they brought back the original design... wow. That would be something (but Rolex is way too conservative for that design and the company seems to only look forward; not to their past when it comes to updating their designs).

I have a feeling the size will come back to 40, just like the datejust back to 36

Since nobody ever really guesses 100% correct on these here is my guess.
A return to the 70's dial, new movement, and a retention of the steel bezel.

I have a new POLAR faced Explorer 11 on order to go with my Sub and GMT. My Authorised dealer told me there was talk of a new model coming out in 2020 along with a price increase of 7% on the 1st January 2020 for the UK. I was offered a black face Explorer last week but decided to wait on the white face as that's the one really want.

I don’t think there’ll be any update on this line for 2020. Like in 2011, once an update happens, you can be sure of great interest from the buying public.

Finally I’ll be picking up mine in the next few days - a Polar version, almost 9 years from its launch date. I guess it’s never too late.

I could've been just as happy with a 16570 as I am with my 216570, but if they were ceramic bezel, I'd have gotten something else. My Deepsea looks great with a ceramic bezel, but that's a different animal than the Explorer. I hope they don't screw with it too much when they have the next update.

I could see Rolex adding 3285, giving it the DJ41 treatment and maybe going back to the Red GMT hand

What is the future for the Explorer II?

The change I’d love to see - a titanium explorer 2. Keeping the size but making it a touch lighter similar to that of the Tudor pelages.

It’s never going to happen of course :)

Love this reference in polar. Have to say though that a ceramic would be killer.

All they really need to do is give it the same treatment as the Datejust 41. Make it wear a bit smaller, that’s all.

I've already got my ideal Polar, so it makes no difference to me. As it stands, both the black and white dial models stand out as something different in the range. The brushed bezel is a part of this. It would be rather dull to have so many watches in the 40-42mm range that look so alike. I think we have too many already.

Leave it as-is except bring down the size back to 40mm. Just my opinion and loving my ol’ Polar Exp II

I absolutely love the current Explorer II. It’s been my daily companion for the last 4 years. I’m hard on it and it still looks brand new.

I can’t imagine Rolex moving it back to 40mm as most of the sports models are 40. I can’t imagine a ceramic bezel or PM version. I say leave it alone; it’s absolutely perfect.

I visited a local AD in Dallas today and the sales lady mentioned she thought it would be discontinued. I completely disagree but you never know.

Funny how subjective these things are. Many people mentioned the hands being too large. I absolutely love the oversized hands. It fits the overall design of the watch and are super easy to read (especially with aging eyes). It’s reall ruined the handset on all other models for me. They look so delicate on my GMT by comparison.

I think all it needs is a dial change so all 24hrs of the day/night hand are lumed. Keep the SS bezel, keep the orange hand.
