I have owned a Air King, they are a great watch. Love the naughtyness of Rolex having put a different coloured crown and the word Rolex.
Another point is the way the fit, I have pretty flat and thin wrists and it fitted perfectly.
I have a feeling it may not be around that much longer, and is certainly going up in price in the pre-owned market. I would buy another for sure.

About the lume... The Air King reminds me of a vintage watch at night. Often in vintage watches, the hands are still lumed but not the dial--hands tend to be replaced more often than dials. I'm not saying that was Rolex's intent. The steel brushed case reminds me of the fuselage of a DC-3.

Watch Bruce Williams' 5-minute video he uploaded last week about his Air-King, and I challenge you to not lust after it:

This is definitely on my radar. Just like my Explorer II, it's something that not everyone has (or even wants). I think that's what I like about it.

You make good points. It does have a vintage tool watch vibe missing in the modern lineup.

What’s the big deal about the lume anyway? Unless the watch has been sitting in bright light the luminescence on all Rolex fades quickly after a short time anyway.

For me, more often than you would think. That and having the date on a watch are what I need in a daily wearer. The AK for me would be to dress up a tad on the weekends or what have you. I like it and it's definitely a contender for the next acquisition.
