Keep the BB if it has sentimental value. Save a bit and wait, then buy the Rolex to add to the collection. Wear it proudly. You worked hard and bought what you wanted. Don't ever worry about what others think.

Sometimes kids ask if the BB is a Rolex and I explain the relationship, but mostly it flies under the radar.

Be honest, if you met your kids teacher at parent night and he was wearing a Rolex, would it look weird? What about a Vice Principal?

Dude!

Im a math teacher at a public school and wear my watch daily.

The kids hardly notice it, and if they do, they think you’re cool and then forget about it

During parent night over had two conversations about watches with two different guys

One wore a Cartier tank and the other a JC deep sea.

Buy it and enjoy it!

You deserve it

(I would know)

Super below the radar watch --- I would totally go for it and enjoy it. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. This Rolex is actually perfect for you.

Who cares what people think. its none of their business. I am in construction and I have had a couple of clients comment about my rolex with the "wow you must charge a lot to have that watch" and the simple answer is "nope. my prices are competitive with the market as you will see. My watches are a result of good investments in both the investment markets and real estate developments and not funded from my daily work income"

I also find it funny how people will judge on a watch. for example I can pull up to a meeting in a hybrid toyota (40,000 CDN) and the other party may show up in a full load completely rigged out Ford F350 (90,000 CDN) yet they see the watch and comment I must charge a lot. point is people don't stop to think that everyone spends their money differently. Sure some can afford it all but many cannot and just because one person spends more on a watch and the other spends more on the car should not be a reflection of how you should treat them.

If it were me I would keep the BB and save a bit longer for the Explorer II. Just my opinion. As far as what you should wear, whatever you like. Not many people will notice, and if they do it doesn't matter anyway. If you were my kids' teacher I would be more interested on how you implement your teaching plan and how well you interact with the kids. As far as I'm concerned, you work hard and deserve to treat yourself.

Honestly the explorer ii flys so under the radar it looks less like a Rolex then the black bay. I had one with a black face for 4 years and not one person ever said anything about it or even knew it was a Rolex. So I think you have that working for you. I’m sure the BB is nice because you bought it when you became a father but unless you plan on giving it to your kid then get the Rolex. Just know that is a watch that fly’s under every radar but the WIS. Honestly I’d save a little more and get the submariner. Kind of getting the vibe your looking at the explorer ii because it’s the cheapest of the professional range. But from past experience I regretted not buying the sub and it was a very expensive mistake. A submariner will also hold its value a lot better and will always be in style. If I’m wrong get the explorer ii and don’t look back.

Had a few teachers when i was in school that wore Rolex.

My old headmaster Harry D was an old salty sea dog, ex WW11 MTB and wore a battered Sub. He could reduce kids to quivering wrecks just by a look. Yet one of the kindest people you could meet. Just didn't suffer fools. Went everywhere with his 2 Black Labradors.

Used to regularly see Harry D well into his 80's. Always called him Sir or by his full surname, even when he used to say call me Harry you make me feel old.

Deputy head wore an Explorer, cool watches and cool people.

I always knew Rolex from being little with my Dad having one and it just seemed to reinforce, that if you stick in then rewards are there to get.

So my advice is get it, you deserve it and it may just inspire the kids even just 1 to stick in at school and achieve something with their lives.

I taught two years of HS Math while wearing a 16750 with a black bezel and nobody ever said a word. Don't worry about it.

I am a school teacher.

I wear three different Daytona’s to work and a sub no date.
Blue sky dweller is next on my list.

I say go for it. It could have been a gift for all they know.

Keep the BB. You will miss that watch and later regret.

Save for the Rolex and don't give it a second thought on wearing to school. As my dear dad always said, "if you go around worrying about what others think of you or how you dress...you'll have a miserable life."

Why would I care what watch someone wears?

I'm a high school teacher, and I wear an Explorer II. I have a few kids who notice my watch and ask if it's real. I tell them it better be. Many of my students' parents are doctors and lawyers and businessman. I don't care what anyone thinks. I am an adult and will wear what I want. This is also Alaska, and not many people up here care about what other people own. I have fellow teachers who own boats that cost as much as my house, so...

You'll have regret if you sell the BB. It has more than just a dollar value attached to it.

Save a little while more until you can get the Rolex outright.

Makes no difference. All that matters is that you are a good teacher who loves his job and students. A watch is just a watch. Just buy your watch and that's that

The 16710 is one watch that actually flies under radar, especially if like me you wear it on a strap.

Regardless, your choice of watches isn't anyone else's business.

Actually, I would keep your current watch and add an Apple Watch, which both the students and the other teachers will be impressed by, if that is important to you.

I would not think it weird. But what I think wouldn't matter. I wouldn't know anything about you or how you acquired your watch. It would be extremely wierd of me to make judgements about other people based on things I didn't know. I know it happens. Why would you care?

As for trading in something of significant sentimental value, that's up to you. I wouldn't. But I'm not you.

Maybe a kid will notice his cool teacher is wearing a "rollie."

Get it and enjoy it. Life is too short not to enjoy the little things.

Shouldn’t be an issue and The explorer II is the perfect one to get.

Not flashy enough for people to think you’re flaunting anything. It’s the perfect under the radar Rolex, if not the most under the radar Rolex you can own

Plus if anyone asks you about it, talking about the history with the kids of that specific model and how it was designed for cave dwelling and spelunking, explaining the different functions to the kids would be a pretty cool lesson in horology

Go for it, just make sure you are buying the watch because it is the Rolex watch you really want. Not just because it is a Rolex watch. Be sure you are happy with what you get so you will be pleased to wear it for years to come, not wanting to flip it for something else.

They care more about funding your pension than about how you spend your income.

In all seriousness, though, don't sweat it. Buy the watch and enjoy it. Anyone worrying about someone else's watch has other issues to sort out.

Keep the BB, it won't get you much if you sell it compared to the sellers remorse. Don't buy an apple watch. Save a bit more and buy the Rolex. Don't over think it, very few people will care.
