Totaly different watches. If you often wear a suit in formal settings then go for Patek. If you want some bling and like people to notice go DD. I use my DD for clubbing only and Patek for business/formal settings.

Guess depends on the person but i dont see how to use a rosegold DD for daily. Its loud and draws a lot of attention. Its the only watch i have that people actualy notice and often receive comments on it. If you go to the office in a suit every day the Patek will better for a daily.

Unlike what others have said. The blue in 5205G only comes through under a ton of sunlight or artificial light. It's dark most of the time. I bought it without seeing it, expecting it to have this popping blue colour and when I got it, it was short of happiness.
If the blue is like that then I would look at the 5205R with the piano black dial, this is hard to call for me so I'd just go with which one sings to you more on the wrist, I'd expect you get both in the end.

I would only buy a Patek if we talk about complicated movements (Perpetual calendar, minute repeater), but I do not have the money to buy a high complicated horology PP, for a annual calendar, time only, Chrono, I always think a Rolex is better. Buy the DD40

which one do you like more?
What’s your work environment like?
What kind of attire are you in?
What watches are in your collection?

To me PP perpetual is my GRAIL watch!!

I know PP is considered the summit of the watch world, but honestly I prefer the DayDate. For that kind of money I just think the DD looks the part more than the Patek. Oh the horror...

I do not care for the day date model at all.

I think that Patek is stunning

I would think with your larger collection that the PP would fill a niche much more so than another Rolex. But maybe you have the watches you do because that's what you like the best! Obviously, you know your taste best.

Oh, and if deep down you really want the PP, ask the same question on the PP sub-forum!

Patek was, yet not for many years. Other brands are now considered better, plus we have independent manufacturers doing some truly impressive / creative timepieces. Patek is a nice mainstream brand tho, sure. Take a look at ALS, FPJ, etc. Early Roger Dubuis watches, for example, are wonderful.

The retouched blue looks amazing. Yes it looks amazing under the natural sunlight from a clear sky, at 2PM, but it's dark 95% of the time. I'd also go for the RG Black 5205. It's cheaper too as you can get bigger discount with it.

Black face? Should read fine.

It's just the blue isnt that "blue" if you know what I mean. The retouched image of it looks way too blue.

I have both (YG DDII and PP Calatrava 5120); if I *had* to have only one, it'd probably be the DDII, but it's a tough call.

This is a shot taken at 11pm indoor under warm lighting.
See for yourself the gradient blue on this dial. There is no special effect or enhancement.

DayDate because of the bracelet. It gives you the "full-gold" look. The DayDate doesn't look like it consists of the head that you straped around your wrist using strap/bracelet. The head and bracelet of the DayDate are one.

The black dial is very difficult to read in sunlight, the hands disappear. But on a cloudy day it’s great.

Next question, go to a Ferrari site and ask, Ferrari or Porsche?

Hard decision. The DD is more versatile being on a bracelet. The 5205 is a VERY nice. It is on my short list.

It's lovely how the Patek, a beautiful piece, has a British date format: Sat 18 Mar

Out of those two I'd choose the DD. More solid, more substantial.
