A Batman is a Batgirl only in the eyes of those who are intimidated or jealous by the watch ... old Batman owners who wished their beloved watch was retired (not updates & improved), anti-Rolex guys who are frustrated by their inability to get the watch they want (so they turned on the brand and look for ways to spite it).

It’s kinda funny for those of us that have and enjoy the watch. I call it the “inner chuckle.”

Interestingly, I just got a new Daytona on Christmas Eve. One of my observations of it compared to my Batman is that I like the jubilee more than the PLC oyster on it. You can see my comments on it here...

Boom. Right on.

Congrats on the Daytona also.

How about just calling it a BLNR, these comic book names suck. My opinion of course.

I’m good with dropping “Batgirl” but can we also drop “Batman” ?

There is no yellow in the BLNR...

The name “Batgirl”

I like to use both: BLNR and Batgirl. I'm not a child and I haven't been considered or called disrespectful either. It's a watch I enjoy...with a few different descriptive names/titles. That's all.

Yes we need to stop the nicknames.... It has been brought up so many times that the majority hates the new name given to the 126710BLNR. There is no logic to it. We even had a poll on the matter months ago and it wasn’t even close to anyone liking the new name. Nicknames are one thing but when so many don’t like it, it’s not good or good for TRF.

Oh wow. I did not know about the poll. I wish I had seen that. I guess I was gone for a while. Of course I knew about the new BLNR on Jubilee and I was very happy that they did that. I think it looks awesome. I just didn’t know it had gotten a new nickname.

I find it ironic since the BLNR on jubilee is much more masculine than the pinkish/purplish Pepsi.

I do like the Pepsi a lot though. I’d love to have one. So hopefully nobody is offended by what I’m saying.

I like both the bracelets, and both men and women can wear them. If I ever acquire the BLNR on jubilee, it will be annoying to hear people call it a batgirl. But I won't pretend to be baffled by the nickname having spread like wildfire. That would be absurd.

Really wish people would stop with all the silly nicknames for watches. Not every watch needs some ridiculous nickname.

So you’re sticking with the whole “Everybody knows the Jubilee bracelet is feminine” thing then are you?

You’re going with that?

I completely agree. They're both men's watches. But the oyster is in fact the more purely masculine bracelet, and when the BLNR Batman was moved to jubilee, the batgirl nickname took off because it resonated widely. Everybody knows this. Many of us dislike it, but it happened, and we're not going to change it.

And I'm not going to pretend that I don't understand it.

I don’t accept that assumption. There was immediate push back but others found it comical so they went out of their way to use the name anywhere they could insert it. Most of us from the moderators to the long time TRF members immediately found the new name ridiculous. The haters smelled blood in the water and just fueled the fire because they could. There is nothing organic or innocent the way this particular name started. Polls questioning the name showed most hated it. It was so stupid most didn’t believe anyone really thought people would seriously use it.
The only regret now is the grownups in the room didn’t push back initially hard enough. That has changed.

Actually your post makes extreme sense. Thanks. I did not know the history on this regardless of what our friend bezler thinks.

Bingo.

It was a derogatory term from the beginning, not to mention juvenile.

It should still be Batman. Did they change Pepsi nickname for the different bracelets? Nope. But if you have to name the newer reference something different, the Dark Knight would work.

BLNR ,CHNR and BLRO are too difficult to remember for most .Simple
LV was even too difficult and it became a frog ....Kermit lead the way for silly nicknames .

Use the model number .Thats how it should be .

Yep. Quite a few of the early adopters who exhibited this attitude are on my TRF “ignore” list.

It's just as dumb a name as the male counterpart.
How childish of some in persisting to use those names.
We need an auto delete function for each post using these

What surprises me is not that certain people want to use nicknames for watch models, but that other people get pissed when they do.

Does it really matter that a certain part of the watch community calls a watch model that you own superman, batman or the joker?

Fascinating those tense exchanges for a nickname of a simple consumer good.
I suppose that some would consider necessary to set up a world male regulation organization for nicknames of all watches wearable by man ?

If you were a woman, how would you feel and react by reading those exchanges, ie in resume how degrading an object nickname become when it sounds feminine ?

If you have a problem with this nickname, maybe you are expecting too much from a simple watch.

Batgirl is a great nickname if it helps differentiate to those not following unnecessary model numbers.

Gender specific watches are no more. Many brands still pedal it so not to alienate their existing consumers who may have questionable equality values. But really if you like a pretty watch then who cares how you identify your gender.
It's lovely to see so many men passionate about jewellery also. Things are slowly changing.

*Search for the NPD market research details on "It’s Time to Rethink the Watch Gender Divide"
Also the Times ran some articles a year or two back
