It's too bad that the brand blew up the way it did. I much preferred it when no one liked them!

In my opinion there are quite a few things that appeal to me.

1) Straight up comfort and build quality. You hear people say all the time that you need to see the watch in the metal. These watches are incredible pieces of construction, in fact i've never handled anything comparable. The cases are unbelievably comfortable due to their curvature and they feel like a part of your wrist- an extension of your body. This is also complemented by the lightness of most materials.

2) Materials and durability. I love the fact that you can't scratch these things. You can wear them carelessly without concern or fear of damage. I find the combination of NTPT's strength and durability a major asset. In general scratches have always bothered me. With RM that's not even something you think about. The watch always looks new.

3) Versatility. These pieces can be worn for sport, dress, and casual. I know many will argue that other brands can do this too, but these watches are built for contact. They are rigorously tested to maintain an extreme standard for sport and are able to protect the movement in a manner that no other brand can.

4) Innovation. In both materials, movement, size, etc. They have accomplished quite a bit for such a young brand.

Finally is just exclusivity. The brand as a whole has 49,000 pieces total in circulation. That is an extremely small number of watches for the decade plus the brand has existed.

I totally understand that the esthetic of RM is not for everyone. At the same time, I encourage any WIS to at least give them a chance. Get your hands on one and spend some time with it. I suspect that your perspective will change towards the positive. It may not be enough for you to own one, but I suspect it will at least develop an appreciation and respect.

JPS
I would listen to John... :)

Sorry OP my thoughts are not positive.
However your current collection is really amazing, I'll let the modded Daytona go.
As some have said that's not even a popular RM, are you looking to get into that level because it's the next level?
I really think the Daytona and day-date in platinum are the top of the tree for Rolex, if you have those you have a great collection in two watches.
Have you looked at mb&f? Seriously great horology there especially the space pirate. If you want an ugly watch you could look at some of Casio's busy hockey pucks, if that's your thing.
Sorry, just my opinion. Best wishes for the new year to you.

RM is going to crash in a few years.

Those watches are ugly, overpriced and overhyped. I wore an RM11-03 for 2 weeks every single day and that watch is nowhere near worth that asking price.

The other ones RM35, RM11, RM30 - they are all rubbish. My personal perspective.

RM is all hyped up at the moment. It will eventually crash. I think most rappers have moved on to AP and Patek.

they all moved from AP to Patek to RM. RM is pretty much the go to watch for athletes/rappers now but they are slowly shifting back to AP it seems

I really don’t think it’s like that at all man. People tend to not like things they don’t know much about.

There is an insane barrier to that information. This isn’t a Rolex your buddy has, or the corner AD that you can stop into to see the pieces.

I too didn’t like the brand or the appearances of the watches when I looked at them on the internet for the first few years. It’s an acquired taste for sure, and I expect most to not like them!

I respect Rolex but RM is another level altogether. I just wish I have better salary package so I can get to enjoy RM pieces properly, but no complaints. First world problem.

Keep the platona. RM are a unique piece and the one you posted is way too big. I also think RM prices will crash soon too. They are way over hyped

I was interested in RM until i saw what some of the service bills can be. I would not feel comfortable with that hanging over my head.

The fact that you are valiantly defending your decision comes across to me that it sings to you and that’s all that really matters. Enjoy!

I guess you are right,... it took me a little to come around to it. But now I get really excited about most of the pieces that are out or coming out

Looks a bit like the JLC extreme lab 2 ( maybe could go down that path?)
Would rather the "normal" looking RM

Give a few watches to some celebrities and rappers for free, pay for some good marketing, and bam you got a hit watch.

If me .. I would keep the platona. Trade in the rest for the RM and add the 218206 to your collection. (PS.. DD2 (platinum) market value is climbing fast! Good examples are getting hard to find.) ... Good luck n Happy Shopping!

My guess if they can afford the watch in the first place then I presume the servicing cost is the last thing they care about.

Not a fan, but I’m not the target market. From what I see, the main appeal is exclusivity to those with very deep pockets.

Rolex will continue to appeal to a wide range of folks from different walks of life, long after we here in this thread are gone. I don’t believe the same will apply to RM watches.
