I’d wait until this year’s Basel releases, just to see what changes Rolex might do to the Explorer I (i.e., present one with a while dial) or even any changes to the Oyster Perpetual.

Since you asked for our opinions, though, I’d keep the OP39.

Explorer 114270 is one of the best all rounders imo

I would trade ASAP.

Here it’s 1200 difference so yeah I was a little off. I sincerely apologize sir.
I’ll take weak currency over all your country’s issues.
Anyways too many rude ppl here. Rolex forum is the absolute worst environment.
I will not be back, ban me please mods.
Oh and I forgot fuck you
Again what are you even talking about. All I said was it was not thousands of dollars difference and explained why there is a premium for an Explorer features. The price isn’t thousands of dollars difference in any country. The Canadian prices have been skewed for a number of years which is why it’s been so difficult to obtain watches with international purchasers coming in. Same as UK has experienced lately. All my country’s issues hmm keep being positive

Learn how to use the quote feature so it doesn’t look like I’m the one littering it with profanity

Most people are right when saying get what sings to you, not what others like.

That said, since you are asking for opinions, I love the white OP and never really liked the Explorer.

Get what you like. I sounds like you like the Explorer. You won't have any trouble shifting that lovely OP.

I'd keep both. But I guess that isn't an option.

I think the OP is stellar!!! The only reason to go with the Exp imho is if you need better night legibility.

I am trying to track down a Rhodium 39mm OP at the moment as I find the white and the black OP just too bland. You mentioned the monochrome dial, do you think if you had the rhodium or blue (or dare I say, grape) you'd feel different?
Like this one perhaps?

Just because one watch may cost more than another definitely doesn't mean it's an "upgrade". It's a matter of personal preference, that's all.

Agreed- and in this particular case, I actually believe it’s a downgrade.

I was in a similar position to yourself a little while ago. Had the OP but after trying an Explorer, yearned for one of those. A few months down the line picked one up from my AD and have recently sold the OP. Never looked back, though I think a white dial in any collection is a nice to have.

Whilst I had both I wrote up a comparison. I can’t speak about older references of the Explorer too much, but if you’re used to the current build quality, having a new watch and will appreciate elements such as the easylink then I’d go for a 214270.

Here’s my write up;

I sold my OP39 white dial and it was purchased to mark an occasion. With that being said, it is a wonderful watch that didn't beg for attention. It has classy detail and an every day "wear feel" about it. Having owned one I can certainly see why it is becoming a watch collectors favorite that seems to escape the Rolex love/hate brand debate.

Another watched called out to me and it sounds like that is the same for you as well. You have to do what you want. I already have too many watches so I am trying to keep to a reasonable number that I will actually wear. They are luxury goods and we buy them for how they make us feel. Good luck.

One guy here said that the OP39 didn't scratch his Explorer I itch. That's cool. Personally, I don't see anything significant between the two watches, and wouldn't spend more just to have "3-6-9" on the dial.

My blue dial OP, to my eyes, looks dang near identical to the Exp. Yes there are minor differences but one has to really scrutinize to note them. So to me, going from the OP to the Exp. is nothing more than a lateral move. I wouldn't do it but that's me.

Keep the OP. It is a solid Rolex that does not draw too much attention to itself.

Thinking about this......I would not probably change the OP for the Explorer, although I prefer it.

I would get the DJ instead.

I'm actually considering the same thing. I have an OP39 and it's great, I just wish it were a little smaller. I'm a recent 36mm convert for time only watches. I used to have a 14270 but at the time I felt it was too slight and jangly, I would welcome that trade; OP39 for 114270. I would miss the modern build quality a bit, but I just can't let the explorer go. My ideal watch would be if they made the current model in a 36mm size, or even 37mm. Seems like with Rolexes there is always some minor detail that I wish they would change. For instance I wish the explorers had a domed bezel like the oyster perpetuals do.

The original Explorer has more in common with your OP 39 than with a modern 214270... just saying...
