In terms of discussion on quality, - the black markers on the 16570 literally comes off while the platinum 16622 will go ageless in time.

When you put the two watches side to side only the simps/wis/2020 rolex aficionados that got bought into the hype will prefer the exp2. Everyone else including your mom, dad, grandparents, boss and colleague will think the YM is a better investment for the money as it's a superior watch. End of story

But hey, your money, your taste.
Bro, you make me laugh - appreciate it.

BTW, I don't buy watches that my parents and grandparents like.

Rather, I buy a watch that I like and don't care too much about it being an investment.

Be safe.

That goes to the point that people don’t know what a YM is. And most people, in general, don’t care what I’m wearing anyway.

My watches are just for me. I’m about the only one who cares.

Cheers.

Ps, gotta add the red date wheel!

Thanks! Very cool with the red DW! Love it!!

Does anyone like the two tone rose gold? I recently tried one on and I was amazed 9n the look. I actually would have bought but they are soooo expensive. Thoughts on the 126621?

I also saw one in the wild and was amazed how balanced and well put together it was! Great finish as well, as all 6-digit YM:s...!

They are not 'under-rated', rather simply less popular as people do not find them as attractive.

The style isn't as ubiquitous Rolex as others. Plus a bezel design which was popular in early 2000, that hasn't carried over so well.

Luckily we all have different taste.

I saw on the timeless watch channel that the yacht master 40 ( pre ceramic) was going to be the next Sub. But when it was finished that Rolex felt they had gone too far off the map. They didn’t want to throw it away and they had the Yacht master copyrighted so they just renamed it. I think it a great alternative to the SS watches that are so hard to get. Give guys a chance to step away from the more conservative SS models, and it’s available under retail

Wonder if the TOG bezel was an inspiration when they designed the YM bezel. Here is my 1625 with slate dial:

Fantastic photo, I feel the same way as you and love the 126622 with blue dial.
I really think that many of the people who are critical of the YM 40, have not had the opportunity to see and wear it.

Don't see why not - he (that is the fictional character) has been on plenty of yachts in the movies.

I own the 126621 and I love it. Everrose with the chocolae dial is awesome.
I did go on a run and tried a lot of stuff. I wanted to really try all the watches I was considering and went to a large gray that had all models in stock.

It turned out that I liked the YM40 Everose the most. So I bought it from my AD a week later.

For me a black 116610 or 104060 is just a solid but pretty boring watch in comparison.

I would maby not want it as my only watch though. (Depending on your lifestyle i guess)From Rolex I also own a DJ 126334 blue, 126710BLRO and soon Daytona.

Indeed, Roger Moore could even have worn an Eyebrow-Master no problem.

My issue was the bezel numbers were a little too big, larger than the GMTCs in fact, otherwise loved the dial, the plat bezel and the bracelet, just a more luxurious Subc, perfect for the Season; Regattas, Clubhouses, Concerts etc.

I’ve tried them on and they’re comfortable but not to my liking. Since I do not like the bezel I certainly agree with your “never owned one” they certainly aren’t for everybody as evidenced by this post, I’m with the oblivious camp.

It’s not really a sports watch, at least not like other rolexes, and it’s not really an elegant dress watch. Also, it’s expensive. With the oysterflex band it is the perfect watch for lazy casual wear, (maybe on your yacht in the marina that you are not racing.)

Not to say that it is a bad watch, but I think the it is a bit category defying, which makes it less popular.

A professional model marketed as a toolwatch to track elapsed time between buoys in regatas, with a touch of elegance. A sports watch first and foremost.

Its bezel will show marks and scratches if worn roughly, but at least it won't shatter like a ceramic bezel, making it more rugged than some other Rolex models.

Interesting Information about the 1992 Release.

Earliest Models of the 16628 indeed use a Submariner Midcase with polished lugs.

The difference in the WR is the caseback. Rolex used the 16718 casebacks on the earliest 16628's.

I have a 1991 N-Serial YM.

Also, technically speaking, the more modern YM is a 16628B (check your lugs) they modified the model number when they changed to a different midcase.

16628 - Introduced 1992.
16628B - Midcase Change ~1996.

Four years they had a 16628.

The OF band is just fantastic I think. Hope my AD opens soon so I can get it.

I love my 16622, but realized while reading this thread it's been months since I even put it on my wrist.

I love the pop of red the second hand brings. So much so that I bought an extra ym second hand and installed in onto a 114060 i own. I did this in the past with a late 90s sea dweller and my first DSSD i owned.

But i just dont reach for the 16622 anymore. I had it service and polished last year and have worn it maybe twice since.

To me the YM gives off this sort of vibe, which is one of the reasons it is not more popular
