Desperate times call for desperate measures. A sale with a starting price of 8k no reserve - almost half its market value - is a clear sign of the times we're living.

Sadly it will get worse before it gets better and I have no doubt we will get through this.

Stay strong, be safe everyone.

14.7. I was off. I felt the market was a bit stronger but apparently not. I used a final value calculator on the interwebs.

The buyer is paying $14.7+taxes. Both buyer and seller got hosed.

Geckobros, your final value fee calculator is way off. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, current final value fee is 10%, but not to exceed $750.

$750.00 ebay + $426.60 paypal = $1176.60 transaction costs for the seller.

Gotcha. I don't know much about EBay and it was the only calculator I could find online. So basically capped at $750 after $7500 if I am reading it correctly. So buyer took about $13.5.

So for the final selling price. About a 50 percent markup over MSRP for a used/pre-owned watch.

I wouldn't complain as a seller.

Considering the fact that the seller really doesn’t have a selling history on eBay he still fetched a lot of money for the Pepsi...maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t have even bid on the item in this case, it’s likely some other prospective buyers had the same outlook.

Just thinking the same, it's an awful lot of money to a low feedback seller whose previous highest sale was only $174.70

I wouldn't be happy bidding.

You need glasses, starting bid was $8000. Also, it was simply an exercise in seeing what the Pepsi would sell for on the open market, nothing more and nothing less. Unless you have something relevant to add to the thread, you need to move on and troll somewhere else!

What’s cool is filtering by “sold items” to see where things have sold. Although if some asks a silly high price, but accepts a lower bid that won’t be visible. At least it provides some level of transparency.

Agreed. Give it 6 months. And even then I don’t think well ever go back to the unprecedented times that we saw over the last 2-3 years.

I participated in this conversation a couple of weeks ago, before I started to feel the economic pressure on me. You realize that the prices are dropping because the world around us is crumbling, right? What is the joy that a stupid Rolex watch is 3-4k cheaper, when I have lost my annual Bonus for 2021 which is more than 200 000 US Dollars. This is the f...g optimistic scenario, I may even loose my salary, God Knows only when this shit storm is over. Macron yesterday said Europe probably will be closed till September, and the Chinese virus Guru said we will stay at home in November for sure.

You’re feeling the economic pressure with annual bonuses of 200K? Oh jeez.

I don't think we can rely on those gray dealer prices to fall anytime soon as most of them paid high dollar and they will all now try hard not to sell them bellow that. Remember that most of the grays were buying the BLRO for $14K just months ago. Now they are full and stucked. Just remember those showy Instagram photos with 20 BLROs on both hands ..

What we can expect by the Autumn of 2020 when general population starts to feel the full effects of C19 and a lot of folks start selling Rolex watches to cover the mortgage/rent/car payments, is to acquire that BLRO via local AD within couple of months of waiting at most - instead of quoted time of couple of years most of us were told..

Gray cost to acquire something does not determine selling price. What buyers will pay in the current market determines selling price. Would you also think if grays were paying MSRP for Daytonas that they would sell them for $14k?

I think the down driver on prices will not be distressed sellers, but availability at ADs at MSRP when buyers disappear and waitlists dry up. May take a few months, but who would pay above MSRP then?

True. It seems like there were a lot of incoming threads from forum members from their ADs prior to covid shut down...

Yes, that's exactly my thought. We are more likely to acquire the desired watch at the AD in near future rather than seeing it drop at the gray dealer.

Someone asked who will buy at the gray in that case - the answer might be that those gray will have to take the hit, or try to break even with those watches they overpaid before the market started sinking ..

In the meantime, I suggest that we follow up on this BLNR eBay auction in the UK so that we have a better sense of the current market situation in Europe.
