I say a Honda. Very reliable, good resale value, and simplicity. I’m talking SS sport models. Now if your talking Rolex watches with all that bling, then I would say a S63 Mercedes, M5, or a Maserati. Look good in the showroom. Once they leave, it’s 30%-40% less of the MSRP.

Lexus. Came in late to the party of luxury vehicles, but is the most reliable and dependable by far.

There have been other threads similar to this and the conclusion is always MB or Porsche.

Personally I think MB only because of the variety of offerings. MB offers different vehicles for everything. AMG for track, G for off road, S for high line luxury, E for everyday practicality and comfort and so forth.

Porsche is not as multi dimensional, maybe can be compared to a Daytona but that would be it.

Seriously? Now we are comparing a dressed up Toyota to a Rolex? Apologies but laughable. Show me one Lexus that aged well. The new releases are borderline hideous. Mercedes and Porsche have lineage, history, and a certain elegance that Lexus can only aspire to have. They have raced in some of the most storied venues against some of the most prolific cars ever produced. Mercedes alone has changed the automotive landscape from inception. These brands have been, and will still remain historically relevant in the automobile world forever.

Mercedes is not a good analogy IMO. Mercedes is a company who's brand equity has eroded significantly since their heyday in the 70's, 80's and early 90's due to quality issues and branching out into cheaper market segments. In that sense, Mercedes is more akin to Longines. Rolex's brand equity is as strong as it has ever been.

Porsche is a better analogy (though I'm not a huge fan of modern Porsches). It's not really an exotic like Ferrari or Lambo (car equivalent of PP and AP) but in the mind of an average person it's almost on the same level. Porsche does not make any cheap models like Mercedes A-Class. It has models that you have to be on the waitlist for. It is also the car of choice for a "baller on a budget" who buys a sports car to show off but can't swing a true exotic.

I am sure I am not the only rolex and porsche enthusiast on the site, so I challenge the rest of you to create a better combo of porsche model to rolex... My criteria is not solely performance but the overall best analogous model pairing

Corvette. Why?

Exotic but attainable for a lot of people.
Classic, timeless, but still pushes the limits of design.
Some models appreciate and some depreciate.
Corvette was slow to move to mid engine.
Maintenance is very affordable and widely available at any Chevy dealer.
Reliability, very good for a mass produced vehicle with around 50-60k units per year.
Brand has been around since the 50’s with a massive collectors base.

I can think of no other brand that checks all the boxes. Porsche and Mercedes are unattainable for most and extraordinarily expensive to service. A super car that starts around $60k with the styling and features of a Corvette, I challenge anyone to find a supercar at that price point.

As a Porsche enthusiast, you should learn how to spell “Panamera”.

porsche

typically they set the new model to 101%-102% of the previous model size, call it styling for the year

Doesn't fit any particular car!

Rolex is very reliable watch, low maintenance like Lexus, but has a brand recognition like Mercedes Benz.

That's ONE model you picked out. Many Lexus models to my eyes are great looking. You don't think Rolex makes at least one model that's hideous to some's eyes?

No doubt Porsche....discounts are rare and they hold value very well relative to competitors. Even the lowest Rolex and Porsche models are expensive.

BMW and Mercedes depreciate ridiculously and they have several crappy entry-level models one can get in to "say" they have a BMW or Mercedes.

AP and Patek are Ferraris more so in the rarity and not as mainsteam as Rolex.....

Porsche. Especially when it comes to design language. The Carrera is a great example of how Porsche makes very subtle changes to this model, keeping it timeless and simple. One of the reasons I admire Rolex.
