The watch should bring you joy, not stress. Right call. You will have another opportunity when things have changed and you are fully ready.

Steve, you wear the watch.

IT doesn't wear you.

Hope your job comes through. In the meantime, a man capable of making an adult decision as you have (and able to discipline the funds necessary) I have no doubt, when the time is right, he'll have the watch (or whatever it is)he's going after.

Tough call but you did the right thing if the purchase would have caused you to experience stress/guilt over it.

I had to do the same. It wasn't fun, but it was the right thing to do.

The big uncertainty in my situation was resolved about six months later. Since I was after one of the hot references, it took almost a year before I got "the call," but it was worth the wait and the reference got an upgraded movement as a bonus.

Best wishes in your profession (or your new one if it comes to that). Your time, and your Explorer, will come.

You saved yourself from a really poor decision. It’s just a watch. Good on you that you have put money aside because that play money could buy you quite some time if you’re out of work for an extended time.
Best of luck to you and when you finally get that watch it will be so special. And who knows, maybe it will have a new movement by then!
Best of luck during these awful times.

Smart move. Unfortunately there will be many threads like this.

I spoke to my wife and she said that if I wanted to pull the trigger that would be fine as I had put the money aside, but deep down I guess I knew it would be selfish to proceed at this time of turmoil.
When I do pick up my first Rolex with my wife I want to enjoy every last second of the experience and not let it be clouded by a slightly guilty feeling.

The AD seemed to be very understanding and have had this happen a few times recently and could see that I wasn't a time waster and has said that as soon as I'm ready they'll put me back on the list: Time will tell

Wise move. Have been chasing a SD43 for about a year and got the call at the end of March from my AD. Wife and I are secure in our jobs (for the near future anyway) but after sleeping on it for a night I just couldn’t in good conscience pull the trigger on a stupid watch.

Hope things pan out for you and you eventually get your watch and take in the full experience. My meager collection consists of an old SS sub and a Panerai 112. Both purchases were much more exciting to me than any car or house purchase. Hope for the same for you.

Cheers,
Scott

Good call. Buy when you feel good about things. EXP 1's are awesome watches, but you will always find when ready.

Cash in hand is much better than a watch on your wrist. Hope everything works out for you in the future.

Sensible desicion, it must have been tough to make that decision but nonetheless it was the right thing to do. Once you have your job back I am sure the AD will be able to offer you the watch and you will be much happier with the purchase then. Good luck

Good call. Luxury items should only be bought when everything else is taken care of and the foreseeable future is certain.

it’s just not the right time.

Wish you all the best.

As everyone said right choice. It's a watch, and it can always be picked up later if still desired in the future.
