I went the other way.

I sourced a new old stock 16610 in 2016 and took the stickers off myself. Then I sold my brick on a bracelet 116610.

Stupid square design, Rolex made a huge mistake that will be corrected with the next model.

I think it is purely personal choice.
Rolex always consider newer model better version of previous one. While many of us may not agree with updates and ascetically prefers 5 digit on the paper 6 digit is superior.

I would still not trade, just save and add

It's all about what you want out of the watch. A tool to tell time and being reliable, then I would go with the latest version. A collectable with great (personal) history (and a couple of scratches and maybe a service soon), keep what ya got. There's the obvious change of bezel, from AL to no age showing ceramic. But to me its more about the usage, then the appearance. For a collection, the most obvious answer is to hold on and get the next one at a good price, have fun, and don't pull too many hairs out, its just a watch, and they're overpriced, especially right now (yes, Still)...

6 digit rolexes are just better rolexes from a build and quality perspective. Plus if it’s new enough it’ll even still have warranty. The ceramic models have much more substance. However it all depends what you’re looking for.

Some guys don’t care about the tin can bracelets of the 5 digit models and prefer the classic proportions on the wrist. Others think the ceramic is superior due to its quality.

I used to be a 5 digit guy until I started wearing 6 digits and now I only buy and wear modern

All valid points. Love the proportions of the 5 digit pieces. So, I compromise the terrible bracelets. Modern is definitely the better watch on paper but they look like a clock on me.

I did pick up a modern OP and love the bracelet, very solid.

I have a SubC and a Tudor Sub. As much as I like my SubC I would say keep your current watch and enjoy. If anything add, don't replace.


I will eventually pick up a 5 digit Sub or SeaDweller but there are a few other watches I want before picking up another diver (also have a BBN)...

Yes, without thinking twice. The bracelet on the SubC is a huge improvement and so is the ceramic bezel (both in terms of scratch resistance and appearance). I also like the slightly square proportions of the maxi case, which harkens back to the early Oyster models from the 20s and 30s.

There is nothing wrong with the 14060M bracelet the pins wear and bend only because it doesn’t get cleaned. All you need is a cheap ultra sonicator bath and soapy water. I clean mine every 4 months no sign of bending at all and it’s very satisfiying maintaining your own watch.

If you want a new sub buy it - but before you do look at the SD43 :)

No! During our last and final conversation the Rolex salesman asked if I had purchased from them in the past. I answered that outside of them handling a warranty issue I had not purchased anything. I believe that was the clue.
