For me a watch with scratches , dents, etc would be a definitely no go if not restored properly.

I like to drive a nice looking car and not a one who has survived ten years of driving in f.e. Napels or Paris.
So everybody his own preferences.

I will try to heat the stickers a little to soften the glue and give it a go.

For me it is important to keep the bracelet also nice on the inside, we all know about the shiny spot were one part of the clasp runs with the inside of the bracelet.
Same for the back of the watch, I like to keep the sticker in place so I No have scratches on the back from putting him down at night dial up from the bracelet.

Ron, I’m glad to see you’ve been around 10 years. You had to see some of this coming.

Congrats on a wonderful piece; and enjoy!

Stickers are trash and you should put them there. If you're unsure about whether you're keeping the watch then leave them on for a month or so.

HAHA. That reminds me of my time in the Air Force when the “FNG“ would be given a crate of jars to go out to the flight line to get air samples for the environmental air quality inspection. Good times!

This is a new one. At least you're taking them off. You still want to keep them. One step at a time I suppose.

I keep all my stickers in a scrapbook Peter.

But now those pesky AD’s are keeping them to themselves.

Ha. We would make the new guys at the supermarket shake the salad dressings then go out to the parking lot to turn on the lights before it got dark.

Congratulations on the DD OP

If you want to keep the stickers that’s your business IMHO.

Congrats on your DD

If you want to keep the stickers for whatever reason, peel them off and stick them on the inside cover of the booklet or on a piece of paper. They shouldn't need any special treatment to remove, just patience trying to find them all (heating them may cause a mess). Personally I would just throw them away, but of course it's up to you.
Btw, I wouldn't leave any on as they will eventually get chewed-up and possibly attract dirt/grit or even get stuck in a moving part of the clasp.
Imo it's better just to wear the watch as Rolex intended and have it lightly polished if scratches begin to bother you. Personally I prefer an unpolished watch, but others feel differently. Some will just wait until a watch goes for service and have it refinished then. It just comes down to personal preference.

Maybe I am wrong, but whenever I have bought something expensive, I forget the money I paid for it, as if I had lost it in a casino, and so I simply enjoy the ITEM and not the money it represented to buy it.

In the end if you are going to buy a Rolex and one is scratched and the other is not the price difference can be 1k or 2k between the scratched vs the flawless. So for 1k I am not going to suffer because I would feel mean with myself and with life.

Is there a way to remove the stickers without damaging the stickers themselves?

I am appreciating to keep everything with the watch and the removed stickers are part of the history for me, I only like to keep them as neat as possible?

With a hairdryer at a low temperature maybe?, anyone any experience with this?

Kind regards,

Stickers are vinyl and there is no adhesive on them.
Saving them will NOT make your watch retain more value.
They are meant for the trash after sale of watch.

When I got my first Rolex, a submariner in 1979, a friend told me to leave the case back sticker on the watch. So apparently it’s valid for the OP to wonder about the stickers. Personally, unless you plan to keep the watch in original condition with stickers left on and not wear the watch, I would discard them as some have pointed out...

Assuming there are others with your orientation, you could sell them on eBay.

Congrats on your DD40. Any pics... I bought a 16710 last year from 2004 and I used a hairdryer on warm to remove the green hologram sticker on the caseback, it came off easily in one piece so im sure that would work for you.

There’s a Rolex intern who on reading this post has sent up a memo to HQ: “An increment of 0.5% must be made on the upcoming price increase. Peculiar as it may sound, the stickers may become a thing.”

JK.

Congrats OP, glad to see you take all the ribbing here in good humor. Look forward to seeing the pics

OP just don't wear the watch if you wan't it perfect. I guarantee you that it will get scratches the moment you put it on regardless of how careful you are with it. Get a loupe and you'll drive yourself mad.

Don't let the watch wear you OP. It would be a shame.

I may have made a mistake. In my zeal to have a complete set, I somehow threw away the watch and kept the stickers.

Put the watch in a glass of warm water, an hour later the stickers will have came off and floated to the top.

After one day I still am so happy with my DD, it wears extremely comfortable and the presidents bracelet is a real upgrade compared to the jubile on my Date 41, that one feels very light and almost “skinny” compared to the hefty President.

I will have to remove the stickers anyway next week, I asked the AD to let me do it myself but I would only get the Warranty card when I present the watch without stickers to them next week whenI have the English daywheel replaced with one in my local language.

I am pleased I made some of you laugh and now I will continue to enjoy my most lovely Rolex.

FWIW, I’ve always removed the stickers and placed them all in a small zip lock plastic bag and then kept that in the box with all the other bits and bobs.

I don’t care for the stickers myself, but if I ever come to sell the watch, it’s all there, stickers and all, and to some folks, that matters.

Congrats on your lovely DD. Sounds great.
