The Explorer DNA is actually derived from the 1950s Oyster Perpetual NOT the DJ.

It’s iconic. The only true tool watch still in the Rolex line-up

I was referring to the design language

You have essentially answered your own question.

Nobody can make you love it except you. If you need to ask, you don't want it, even though you have succeeded in getting a bunch of strangers to convince you that you do.

Congratulations. It's a great watch. I'm sure the novelty will be good while it lasts. And who knows, maybe our love of it will make you love it for longer?

You will not be disappointed. Amazing watch that looks so much better in the flesh.

The most legible Rolex dial on the market in my humble opinion.

Despite owning a Sub, DJ & Seamaster I literally wear the Explorer everyday. A true collection killer!

Did you lost some money in the stock market today or something?

I hope you find happiness.

Congrats on pulling the trigger. Here’s my Mk1. Crappy photo but I like how light bends and curves around the high polish numerals. I also like that this watch is a little quarky with the smaller hands (which I literally would never have noticed if someone didn’t point it out). I think the Mk2 is more in line with the heritage of the original Explorer, but I could care less. I like this for what it is (whatever that happens to be). It’s a little less sporty than a Mk2 but a touch more elegant, and to me, a little more versatile. This is my #1 and only Rolex I kept after buying and selling a handful of others.

Welcome to the club.

How can anyone hate that. Only downside is time only but if you’ve got a glut of extra complications already it’s a no brainer.

Post pics when you get it!

You will not be disappointed, the more you wear it the more you will appreciate it. The problem with it is that it could be your one and only watch for all occasions and you can start neglecting the rest of your collection.

... although the Everest peak is the DNA of the watch this picture shall not be omitted ... depicting how dressy and serious it can get ... believe most will do recognize the character

Here's my real belief and I like the watch a lot. I've played with buying one over the years and never took the leap. It really is pretty much an OP with a Mercedes hour hand and lumed second hand. The three lit numerals were on OPs and still are. The lumed stick markers are similar to the DateJusts and OPs. Heredity aside (even the heredity is questionable as the watch used in the Everest climb was labeled OP but was beefed up and ultimately may not have even been used).

The thing that would make it more interesting to me is if they got rid of the stick marker and replaced them with markers like in the subs and GMTs. It would provide better night visibility. So it's basically an OP with different hands imho. Oh, OK, it's cot a different clasp as well.

Wears better than any modern Rolex 40-41 (minus the Daytona).

Get it!

No.

I've been a 40-41 wearer my whole life, but the simplicity of the EX1 is making me crazy!

If you got some recent wrist shot photos, would you care to share?

THANKS!

- Kyle

I personally think the OP 39 wears much better on my wrist compared to the explorer 1 39. The explorer 1 wore very flat on my wrist.

I went back and forth over the Explorer 1 and Explorer 2. I went with the 2 because I really wanted the date function on my daily wear watch. I would LOVE to have Explorer 1 for a change of pace and/or weekends. Get it.

It's the perfect companion for a Giants game, a pastrami benedict breakfast, or just a 7.25 inch wrist

I was in the same boat. First went with the explorer, then went with the explorer II. I wear the Exp II weekdays and the Exp weekends.
